Why Outerwear?

GORE-TEX® Technology and Simms Gear

Product Care

GORE-TEX® Outerwear Care:

Cleaning your GORE-TEX® garments regularly will extend the life of the product. It will also keep them breathable as dirt and oil can clog the GORE-TEX® membrane over time.

It is critical to wash jackets. Natural oils can damage the GORE-TEX® tape and adhesives causing a peeling effect.

Machine wash warm. Do not use fabric softener or bleach.

Remember to zip all pockets and close all Velcro cuffs before washing to prevent any damage caused by the machine.

Tumble dry on warm setting making sure not to use a high heat setting. Drying on warm will actually reactivate the DWR coating.

  • At Simms, sun protection is a critical component of our sportswear offering.  Through a combination of fabric construction, design and finish, we offer a wide range of clothing that features a minimum UPF of 30 (very good) up to UPF of 50 (excellent).  UPF stands for Ultraviolet Protection Factor and indicates how much of the sun's UV radiation is absorbed.  A fabric with a rating of 50 will allow only 1/50th of the sun's UV rays to pass through.  This means the fabric will reduce your skin's UV radiation exposure significantly.  All of our UPF finishes last the life of the garment, an industry standard of 30 washings.

Finally! Review by Tangoboy
Overall
Northwest b.c. Coast fishing means months of cold rain and snow and wind. All in one day all day long. After years of being wet and cold on the rivers or along the ocean, this ended with this jacket. Period. Well done overall. A bit of work on the hood and we have the perfection jacket. No more hiding under a tree waiting for the rain to slow down, no more sitting in the truck til the weather changes. More fishing time so more fish. Simple. Good one!

great jacket, Review by Captain Bill
Overall
I have been wearing the Bulkey jacket Steelhead fishing in northern Michigan this spring and last week we went from cold hard rain to sleet and finished the week with snow and rain. The only thing I miss in the jacket is another pocket on the front like a side pocket that zips that you can get to without unzipping the front of the coat. I wore the Gore-Tex ExStream hat under the hood and man oh man what a combination.

Great for Colorado Winter on the Ice Review by Capt. Ross - Fort Myers, FL
Overall
I bought this jacket for an ice fishing trip in Colorado. Morning temps were below zero, but with a few under layers, this jacket kept me warm. Very comfortable and nice fit. It was "generic" enough to wear out in public with out feeling like I was wearing a fishing jacket. Too bad it's way to warm to use here in FL......

Worth its weight in gold. Review by Donn V
Overall
I got this jacket for steelhead fishing. Its Very Very warm. Most days I just wear a long sleeved tee under it. It completely cuts any wind. I also like that its stylish enough to wear around town.

Almost Perfect. Review by ThePharmacist
Overall
I have worn this jacket just once for cold weather fishing but have worn it about 30 days in a row as my every day winter jacket. I am amazed with the warmth for how lightweight it is. When it came in the mail I was expecting something much bigger with thicker insulation etc. The insulation is the perfect amount! I am tall and skinny so the medium fit me perfect. The only drawback in my opinion is the hood. It seems a bit too shallow and does not cinch well around the face ears to keep wind/rain off of your face.

Amazing Warm Jacket and Cuts Wind Review by Charleston Redfisher
Overall
I bought this jacket because I was tired of wearing about 5 layers in the winter time in Charleston. I fly fish for Reds year round and I found this jacket. It's awesome! I just wear a thin fleece under it on the coldest days and you will almost sweat! Running to different flats on the boat you will not feel the wind and couldn't ask to be more warm. All my buddies are jealous.

Great jacket with one flaw Review by Nick
Overall
This jacket is incredibly comfortable and versatile. I definitely like that it is cut longer to wear for things besides fishing.

The one thing I don't like is the hood design. It is not very deep from front to back. The only adjustment to tighten the hood is on the back of it, which basically pulls the hood further back from the front of your head rather than cinching it down around your head like my other Simms jackets do. Essentially the more you tighten it the more exposed your forehead and face are.

I bought this to replace my 13 year old Guide jacket as my primary rain coat for fall steelheading. So far the hood does not seem like it will protect my face and glasses from rain all that well.

Bulkley: Warm, not bulky Review by Pete Pepinsky
Overall
Okay, you folks in Alaska, Montana, Idaho and all those other godforsaken cold places may look down your frostbitten noses at those of us in the mountains of Western North Carolina, but we are fluent in cold, too. The Bulkley works. When you first try it on, you may tell yourself "Geez, I paid a lot of money for this featherweight." No, you made a wise investment. Over my ProGuide G4s, with this jacket I'm comfortable in wind, rain and cold. No complaints at all.

Guide Jacket or Winter Coat? Review by Chuck
Overall
This jacket is amazing! It's replaced my winter coat and will be in my pack all season in Alaska when I'm not wearing it just in case the temps drop! Primaloft is really great stuff! Noticed a few reviews complained about no hand warming pockets but they are there under your front chest pockets. This jacket is pretty well true to size. I'm about 6 ft 190 and Large fits perfect. I have worn this jacket extensively now in temps down to 15 degrees with just a light baselayer (Like a fleece) and the cold didn't bother me at all. I also appreciate that it really doesn't scream wading jacket and can be worn just as a cold weather jacket. Love the black as well.
