- Not 100% waterproof Review by Coho Hunter
OverallAfter looking at several hip bags in the local tackle shop, by several different brands, I finally decided to buy this one. The main reason is it's waterproof (or so I thought). I also liked the simplicity in the big main compartment. The side waterbottle holder is also a nice touch. I used it for the first month or so in dry weather. I loved it! Then the rain came. In light mist it was fine all my stuff inside was bone dry. Unfortunately the other day I wore it in the pouring rain. After a couple hours all my stuff inside was SOAKED! I thought...ok...I did open it the odd time to get something out...but there is no way THAT much water got in. I dried it out completely and decided to perform an experiment in my back yard: I simply hung it over a lawn chair with all zippers fully closed. I even zipped the main compartment zipper all the way over to one side to eliminate rain getting through the tiny hole where the two zipper tabs meet. Anyway, I left it outside for about 3 hours. Enough to simulate fishing in a good downpour. After when I brought it inside and opened up the zippers sure enough, there was a lot of water in it. We're talking at least 250ml. Clearly this product does not live up to its "water proof" claim. I will be returning it ASAP and getting a (albeit more expensive) waterproof hip pack by Sage. Hopefully it lives up to its claims.
