- Nice pack but soaks up water like a sponge Review by Hugh
OverallUsed this pack on and off for about two years. Has plenty of room, has well organized pockets and the shoulder and waist strap are comfortable for the size of the pack. The pack will hold more than the average guy needs to carry. The downfall of this pack is the fabric soaks up water like a sponge when subjected to a dip in the water. Most hip packs are worn lower than your waist and it's very easy to wade in water where the bottom of the pack dips into the water. The results is a soakd pack and fly boxes. Due to this problem, the Dry Creek hip pack will always be my perferred pack for steelheading and rainy weather. Although the Dry Creek pack is a no nonsense pack and not totally waterproof, I perfer it over this pack for that reason. Like most guys, I do not put a price tag on quality fishing gear, that's why I buy exclusively Simms products. New products are not perfect and always need tweeked. Hopefully newer models will improve on this problem with sort of waterproof lining. This is a really nice pack for low water and dry weather.

- Great but misses on perfect Review by Cold River
OverallIf you are looking for a well designed and comfortable waist pack this is it. It is more suited for the minimalist than the heavy packer, though it has well organized spaces and compartments. Zipper pulls are best I have seen on similar fishing equipment. I was pleased to find a compartment between the zippered compartment nearest the padded waist belt and the padding. This holds my oversized hemostats very well for easy access.
I was not pleased to see that the neck strap had no D-ring or loop for carrying a net with a clip-on zinger. I thought as much from the various Web photos I examined but I was hoping. Simms missed perfection with this oversight. Why would they not have added this to an otherwise outstanding design? I guess they expect us to use only pin-on net zingers. I added a grommet to mine to accommodate the clip-on zinger I prefer. The fact that it covers part of the Simms' name serves then right for ignoring the net zingers many of us use.

- Very good pack but with one minor problem Review by Alexander Awerin
OverallI bought HEADWATERS CHEST / HIP PACK with Headwaters 1/2 Day Pack. The result was a very comfortable combination that suits me all. The bag itself is very comfortable, with lots of pockets and options for carrying.
But, unfortunately, Catch & Release modular systems is poorly thought fixing. This mount is easy to unwind and bolt was lost. Now I have to think how to get to the bag fastening.

- Headqaters Chest/Hip Pack Review by J.Asheville - Asheville/NC/USA
OverallI picked this up at my local fly shop on a whim. This thing is awesome! It has plenty of storage and is incredibly comfortable to wear. The biggest advantage I see aside from looking much better than a traditional vest is the ability to visually see everything you have stored while on the water. I like not having to fumble through deep pockets like you have on most vests. Having everything just below eye level makes changing a fly or tying on a new line incredibly efficient. My friends were jealous because Simms even thought to include a mesh drink holder on the side allowing you to stow a cold beverage of your choice. I do wish it had a built in fly box but I believe Simms does make another model with this feature. I would recommend to anyone.

- easy, light, and convienant Review by c. heim - colorado springs, co
OverallGot this about two weeks ago and i can truly say it's probably the most convenient pack ive used, i can stick my nalgene in the bottle holder and has enough room and pockets to store all my stuff. i like that i can rotate it around my body to keep it out of the way, and the fly box compartment is a nice hard material. i also like if i am wading in a deep pool i can bring the pack up as a chest pack and keep it out of the water. i also put the simms retractors on it for my nippers and forceps and they work great on there too, just not a fan of the purple cord they have in them, but that has nothing to do with the function or this pack. overall, if you're looking for a small pack that will hold all your goodies, you wont be disappointed.

- Chest/Hip Pack is the Answer Review by Cookie - Battle Ground, WA
OverallAfter using lanyards and vests in the past, this pack answered all my questions. It holds all I need, it's light, and it swings out of the way easily. I like the fact that I can adjust it quickly based on what I'm wearing and it "fits." It was my favorite Christmas gift from my wife and kids. Now I have to buy my son one so he'll leave mine alone!
