Great pack Review by David

David 6/23/2015

I use this pack when I guide up in Colorado. I really like it. Easy to use, holds all my fly boxes, water for clients, snacks, etc. I bought a velcro foam fly holder and stuck it on the front in place of the bottle holders. Overall I recommend this pack to anyone.

Dual Purpose Sling Review by Brookie Chaser

Brookie Chaser 3/20/2015

I bought this pack to serve as my day-to-day sling for toting my laptop and a few small work-related supplies, AND to be my go to sling for fishing trips where I need a bit more storage space.

This sling gets it done on both fronts. I have plenty of space for the commute, and since I bike often, this secures perfectly with the waist strap. Mist or light rain is repelled keeping my electronics dry. For fishing, it accommodates larger fly boxes with easy, and still fit a roll up a sweatshirt or wading jacket with space to spare.

Best part about this sling is all of the easily accessible pockets. Just really smart design and if you take the time to set up your gear right, you don't even have to swing it around.

I looked at a lot of slings and was close to buying the 9L Patagonia, but felt that would be a little small. So glad I went with SIMMS. Like every other pack I have gotten from them, it's the right size, light, and really well constructed.

Day Packing for Streams Review by swattinsalmon

swattinsalmon 2/25/2015

Purchased this "Sling Pack" to fish smaller rivers in Eastern Washington and Idaho for steelhead. It provides space for all the essentials and more. I will rig a Hydro-Pak for the longer treks.

Solid purchase. Review by Sully

I have only used this sling twice since I bought it but it holds a ton of gear, comfortably holds my rain jacket and easily adjust to layers in cold weather. I'd buy it again.

Great pack overall Review by Sling challenged

Sling challenged 11/5/2014

I've tried just about every sling out there - they all have some features I like, none have everything I'm looking for. The Simms large sling is a great bag, would like to see an external water bottle holder and some sort of zippered organization in the large compartment. Also not fond of the waist strap. I do like how the Simms sling rides and hangs straight when slung to the front, nice pockets, fold down work space and great feel.

Close to great but not quite there yet. Review by Catsailor

Catsailor 10/14/2014

First and foremost I am a big Simms fan.

I think the concept of this sling and fit is spot on however I have a few suggestions.

My biggest gripe is that the removable floatant and tippet-spool retainers do not stick well to the inside of the compression-molded front pocket like it's obviously intended. These removable items do not stay put either falling to the bottom or worst case, if you forget to zip up the closure, falling out mid stream and losing your tippet/floatant. (Thanks to Simms for replacing mine). Since the tippet/floatant stick fine on the outer material or on my waders the issue is with the material chosen to line the inside of the pocket. Please change it.

My next gripe is with the rod tube straps which I found wouldn't securely hold my new shiny smooth Sage "Salt" rod tube. The tube just slips out and are therefore worthless for their intended application
with this tube. Glad I didn't loose it. It needs a sticky/grippy material as a fix.

I love the way the sling pack fits in the small of my back. The external stash pocket is a great feature. I wish the larger pocket had 3 stretchy pockets for fly boxes and wish the compression-molded front pocket that folds out for a customizable workspace was more condusive to customization. IE a tad wider so that the removable velcro tippet, floatant, and fly patch could be secured side by side (at least two of them) rather than only top/bottom in the pocket. And the pocket itself was roomy enough for all three accessories.

With these improvements a very good product would indeed be great!

Amazing!! Review by DevilDogFlyFishing

DevilDogFlyFishing 10/7/2014

The Simms Headwater Large Sling Pack changed my fishing. Spending a full day on the river is always my goal whenever I get to fish. Although vests are light, they seemed to constantly be a burden and constantly got in the way when navigating the tight trails that surround Utah's Provo River. The Sling Pack gave me a slimmer profile and made it easy for me to organize my gear. The workstation provides a place to set down tools or flies when you want to setup a new rig in the river as opposed to finding a dry spot on the bank. As with all Simms products, the construction is sturdy and takes abuse well. I am able to pack all my fly fishing gear to include multiple fly boxes, 8 spools of tippets, and an extra reel. In addition to all of that, I pack a jacket, JetBoil for making lunch, and a camera with an interchangeable lens. It is the ultimate pack and I could not imagine fishing without it. A must have for any serious angler, salt or freshwater.

great product Review by micky

micky 9/1/2014

just returned from salmon fishing in sitka., Love the product. tons of room even with a rain jacket tuckedin the large storge pocket. would be perfect if the bottom portion of the pack were water proof. wading in waist deep water will soak everything in the lower portion of the pack.
