Why Simms Waders?

Why GORE-TEX®?

Product Care

GORE-TEX® Wader Care:

The #1 tip to prolonging the life of a wader is drying your waders. It is important to dry your waders out after each use. We recommend drying the inside first (if damp) and then the outside. When drying the outside you can pull your gravel guards up until the feet are dry and then flip them down to dry the rest of the wader

Washing - Use a front load machine or hand wash. Use cold water and normal detergent that does not contain bleach. Once you have washed the waders make sure you dry them properly start by drying the inside first. Never put your waders in the dryer, the heat will adversely affect the seam tape on your waders and will void your warranty.

Fit - We offer more sizes than anyone, a good fit goes a long way to extending the life of your wader. Make it clear that people should use their exact measurements as we have already provided extra room for layering and movement.

General Care - Do not store inside your car for long periods of time excess heat will damage your waders.

Use A Mat - Always put your waders on using a protective mat to shield the neoprene feet from rocks. The Headwaters gear bag for example has a pull out mat that works great for this.

Proper Layering - Do not wear jeans under your waders. Jeans are highly abrasive wearing on your waders from the inside out. More importantly jeans and sweatpants do not transfer moisture away from the body. Use proper layering (to view our layering collection, go here). Using layers such as these will help wick moisture away from your body and assist in the waders ability to breathe.

Stains - most stain removers will work fine on our waders. As long as the stain remover does not contain bleach you should be o.k.

  • The GORE-TEX® membrane is the heart of all GORE -TEX® products. The GORE-TEX® membrane contains 9 billion microscopic pores per square inch. These pores are so small that water droplets cannot get through but water vapor can still escape. Water from the outside cannot penetrate and cold winds cannot pass through, but perspiration can escape easily, keeping you dry and comfortable all day. GORE-TEX® fabrics are created by integrating the GORE-TEX® membrane between an outer fabric and lining.

Sweet waders! Review by Steamboat David
Overall

Steamboat David 8/5/2015

OK, I admit...waders are not a top priority with me. Just sayin' !
I have fished in an old pair of Simms Headwaters Waders...and they worked just fine. They keep me dry, hold up to lots of abuse and do their job nicely. After 10 years, I decided to buy a new pair, same wader...light years better! I love them! Everything has been ramped up! I live in Steamboat CO. and I fish a lot. These feel luxurious to me...total comfort in the body and in the neoprene. They just feel good. My feet fit better into my Simms Guide Boots and the comfort is so welcome...These waders rock!!

The inside of the legs is an issue Review by Anthony
Overall

Anthony 5/12/2015

I work in fisheries and we do a lot of hiking in these waders. On average 3-5 miles every day. The inside of the leg where the reinforced fabric ends it rubs and wears out from hiking. I end up having to replace my waders ever 6 to 8 months. They are far superior and last months longer than competition but the inner leg is an issue. I doubt the average fisherman would have this problem though.

Bulletproof Review by Carter
Overall

Carter 5/5/2015

I have ran these waders through hell and back over the past year and a half, I spend 100+ days on the water a year and they have exceeded my expectations. I actually took a fall down a hill injured my back and neck through thorns and roots and there wasn't a single pin hole leak anywhere on the wader.

Most comfortable waders I've ever purchased Review by Mark T
Overall

Mark T 4/25/2015

After dealing with wader problems for the past 15 years and seeing my favorite fishing buddy still wearing his original Simms waders he purchased many years before I started fishing with him I finally broke into the jelly jar and bought a pair of Headwaters Stocking foot waders. Simms offers great size selections and mine are the perfect size and without doubt the most comfortable waders I've ever worn. They fit perfect and allow unbelievable range of movement. I fish pretty hard, usually all day climbing up and down banks and over obstacles. Very easy to move in. I've tried four different brands of waders and they all eventually needed seam sealing, sometimes drastic! Can't make any claims yet but if they are half the wader that my buddy has I will be one happy angler. Wish they had an inside pocket but I can work with that. Thanks Simms, Montana made!

Only asking a question about the front pocket...thank you. Review by Delp
Overall

Delp 3/21/2015

I have been a Simms wader user for a long time, and have never thought to try another brand, but when I went to my local fly shop to pick up a new pair, I found several models all outfitted with a mesh front pocket. This seems like a serious design flaw. I wear a lanyard and having tools and possibly flies in contact with such a surface almost guarantees getting them caught in the mesh. I stay away from almost anything I use with mesh pockets, as they usually end up with my keys stuck in them. Just curious. I did not end up buying a pair of Simms, but have to tell you the fit is remarkably good and the neoprene feet seem to be the best in the business. Thanks for any insight you can post on the mesh question I have.

Superb quality at affordable price Review by Snake River Flyfisher
Overall

Snake River Flyfisher 3/8/2015

I upgraded to the Headwaters Stocking Foot today. And immediately tried them out in the Snake River of Idaho. The quality & fit are worth the price. I'm 6' 2" tall with a size 12 foot & the waders fit both me and into my Simms wading boots perfectly. No more pinched toes! I wore them for 5 hrs of gravel bars, busting through brush & a lower chest deep river traverse & the waders performed flawlessly. They felt "broken in" right out of the box: light weight, no leaks & no clammy feeling. Given Simms waders/boots comfort, fit & value...you have a customer for life.

Luv Em! Review by JW
Overall

JW 12/1/2014

Bought these waders a week before a thanksgiving fishing trip. Spent four days in frigid temps. fishing Wilson creek in western nc, and I didn't hold back. I'm not a "get outta the truck and walk down to a hole" kinda fly fisherman, I put probably five miles beatin the brush and hicking in these waders and I was warm and comfy the whole time. Only four stars because I wanna see how they hold up after a couple months of fishing.

Excellent waders for the Price Review by Drew
Overall

Drew 11/30/2014

I surf fish over 120 days a year on Long Island for Striped bass from the sandy south shore beaches to jagged rocks in Montauk often hiking miles to reach productive spots and these have held up nicely over the last couple of years. Only very slight leaks have started to form in seams after hundreds of outings. Easy fix. I have never had waders that didn't eventually leak from cheap to the most expensive waders. Water eventually finds its way in but the best waders like these will take a long time and lots of hard use. Probably the best wader you can get for the price.

Mehhh Review by Chromeo
Overall

Chromeo 10/25/2014

I purchased these in fall of 2011. They get used 20-30 days a year give or take. They were good up until a year ago when leaks started popping up along the crotch and boot liner seams as fast as I could take care of them. I know that they say they will repair the seams professionally at their Montana shop, and I believe that they would, however sending in my waders for a week or two in the middle of our short Lake Superior steelhead season is not really an option that is feasible for a serious fisherman, so aquaseal and patches it is until then. I'll be contacting their service and warranty department once I hang up the rods for the year...so we'll see how much they really stand behind their serious product for serious fishermen.

Great wader! Go with the GORE-Tex. Review by Salvatore
Overall

Salvatore 9/23/2014

The Headwaters wader is the best wader for your money, period. You get Simms entry level GORE-Tex wader for a great price. As a gear tester for GORE, I spend a TON of days on the water and in the woods with my gear, and I don't take it easy! I like to hike deep into the wilderness where the only company I will have as I fish is a bear, the fish I am chasing, or other animals! I'm not someone who throws their waders on after I get out of my truck and walk 25 yards into the stream. These waders are breathable, have a great fit, tough as nails, and you get a great price. Don't forget, these are made of GORE-TEX, so you are really getting the best bang for your buck. If I could give one piece of advice to those shopping for waders, it would be to opt for the GORE-TEX every time. I use these year round, and I have plenty of room to throw on layers underneath mine (I'm 6'4, 280 lbs, size 14 boot). While steel heading, I stayed warm, dry, and on the water all day, which lead to more fish! While trout fishing, the sweat is able to escape due to the breathability of these waders. I would buy them again in a heartbeat.
