Product Care

Footwear Care:

For proper cleaning of your footwear to descrease the likelihood of spreading Aquatic Invasive Species, please reference our CleanStream™ page.

If using in saltwater always clean and rinse to prevent corrosion.

Use a brush to remove dust and dirt. Choose an old vegetable brush or toothbrush. For maximum thoroughness, remove laces prior to cleaning. Use specialized boot cleaner, saddle soap or maybe a mild dishwashing soap with luke-warm water.

Do not use bar soap or detergents.

Do not place wet boots close to a heat source (fireplace, campfire, wood stove, radiator, heater, sunny windowsill) as this can weaken adhesives and cause materials to become brittle or shrink.

Dry using natural methods (air dry) and try to keep them out of the sun for long periods of time. Boots dry faster when positioned upside-down. If desired, stuff a sheet or two of newspaper into each boot to absorb moisture. Change the paper each hour.

If you see any mold on your boots, brush in a mixture of 80% water and 20% vinegar.

Over time the use of leather conditioners may provide increased water repellency and can prevent cracking and drying of the leather.

Store footwear in a place where temperatures are stable and normal. Do not store footwear in attics, garages, car trunks or any unventilated spaces.

Never put footwear in washing machine.

I have two pair in reserve Review by Ralph
I live in these things and burn through a pair and a half each season. I have two pair, unused in the closet in case they get discontinued or "improved"! I get blisters where the top of the heel rubs, but that is easily cured by wearing a pair of the thin Simms neoprene socks. They are flexible which at times make them more stable than cleated hard footbed wading shoes. Love them!

Best summer water shoe ever Review by Dowizm
I bought the Keen version of this and always filled with rocks. These keep the rocks out. I have a 17' skiff and go from beach to beach in the Puget Sound area and am always in and out of my boat. These grip great, feel great wet and are comfortable all day.

Great for wading! Review by Vince
I used to wet wade in Keens, but I was constantly dealing with little rocks getting into the shoes. These are great because the mesh on the sides keeps all of the little rocks out. The Vibram soles grip great and they are super comfortable.

Awesome shoe that needs slight redesign Review by Lawrence
I bought these shoes for wet wading in Oregon, Montana and Wyoming. I have used these shoes extensively for nearly two years and have always used them with studs. I have only felt the stud screws in the area of my big toes and mostly when walking on pavement (pullouts in Yellowstone park are paved). When walking on soil and river beds I don't really notice it. I believe that adding a rubber insole pad would eliminate this problem. I would highly recommend to Simms that you redesign the thickness of these soles to eliminate the issue of adding studs. These shoes could very well be the best ever designed if this issue were corrected. Other than the soles they are amazingly comfortable and snug which is necessary to eliminate your feet from shifting within the shoe on rocky surfaces.

[Response from Simms Customer Care Team]
Thanks for the review Lawrence. We have passed this along to the product team. We don't recommend putting studs in the RipRap since the retention plate was not designed for them. Glad that for the most part the studs are working for you.

Shoulda bought before now! Review by BadCaster
Just spent my first day wet wading in these shoes. Performed flawlessly. Comfortable, grippy, keeps sand and pebbles out of your shoes. Way better than even the best river sandals for traction. Simms should market these to the whitewater raft, SUP and kayak crowd. Far superior traction in my experience than any of the high priced river footware you find at the whitewater outfitters. I'm going to buy a second pair to keep in reserve in case I can't get these in the future. I will be using them for fishing as well as rafting. Best thing ever!

Very functional and comfortable Review by Great Wading Shoes
Well constructed. Capable of wearing as a casual shoe. Overall a 5 star. Not the best shoe for casting from a boat deck - tread grabs loose line coils. However, overall excellent and very comfortable with SIMMS wet-wading socks.

All Aroud Fine Product! Review by Bluffview
Acquired a pair last year to use fly fishing in Colorado with my wading pants. What really impressed me was in July my brother and I hiked 4.5 miles in - a 1500' altitude gain to 10,500' - to a lake in RMNP. To save weight, I decided to use as these for hiking. They worked great; comfort, adequate support, no problems. Even though I am a B width and these were one size large (for fitting in waders)!

Trapping in Simms gear Review by chicadog
I am a muskrat trapper from Washington state and I spend about 100 days in the winter time in and out of creeks and ditches. The riprap shoe gives me all the traction and support I need when Im running the line. Thanks for a great shoe.

Good Review by JT
Good for the outdoors, great grip and comfortable. But they do mark the floors if you wear them inside.

Great Shoes Review by Paul
I've had these for about a month. I've fished ponds and streams with them. Mud bottoms and rocks.

I've never had another shoe that grips rocks like these do.

When I have to walk a mile or so to get to/from my fishing spot, these feel like regular walking shoes.

I'm very impressed.
