Product Care

GORE-TEX® Outerwear Care:

Cleaning your GORE-TEX® garments regularly will extend the life of the product. It will also keep them breathable as dirt and oil can clog the GORE-TEX® membrane over time.

It is critical to wash jackets. Natural oils can damage the GORE-TEX® tape and adhesives causing a peeling effect.

Machine wash warm. Do not use fabric softener or bleach.

Remember to zip all pockets and close all Velcro cuffs before washing to prevent any damage caused by the machine.

Tumble dry on warm setting making sure not to use a high heat setting. Drying on warm will actually reactivate the DWR coating.

  • GORE-TEX® Performance Shell outerwear is waterproof, lightweight, durable and breathable. It’s designed to provide excellent, long-lasting performance in a wide range of conditions.

  • Little Parts from the YKK® Fastening Products Group create The Big Difference for our customers — fastening solutions intelligently integrated with the finished product to provide the highest quality, most durable gear. Excellent Jacket Review by Drifty
Reading the reviews, I wonder if the two-star reviewers even looked at the product before they bought. Don't like it because there's no back pocket? Why buy it in the first place if that's a feature you want? Same for the lack of hood face draw string. Didn't notice that before taking it to Alaska?

My initial impression, after half-dozen outings in cold, wet weather, is that it's a great jacket. I love the weight, which is just right for everything from spring/fall through serious winter fishing (with layering underneath, of course). It is lighter, more packable, breathable and flexible than the heavier, bulkier guide weight jackets, but still offers great wind-stopping protection. My only complaint is with the fly line-catching placement of the velcro wrist tabs. I'm giving it 4 out of 5 for that reason only. Otherwise, it would be a solid 5.

Great Jacket! Review by Blackstone
Although I like the Simms Guide Jacket, and Patagonia SST, I prefer this new light weight jacket. It is working great for summer use, and a little layering should make it excellent year around. This is a great jacket at a reasonable price that is always with me on the water.

Great value for the money Review by Rain man
I bought the Headwaters for a recent trip to AK. and it performed beautifully. The week was mostly cold, cloudy, & rainy and I rarely even noticed. I liked everything about it. It took me a little while to figure out the hood drawstring located in the back of the hood, but once I drew it up I was surprised at well it kept wnd and rain out. I have no doubt the more expensive jackets have more great features, but I'd rather spend my $ on other things...like another trip to AK!

Excellent! Review by Dan
Excellent jacket! When it came time to retire my old fly fishing jacket, I painstakingly researched all the websites and read all the reviews on all the diferent brands/types of jackets that were out there, but I kept comming back to the Headwaters...I wasn't disappointed with my final decision. This is one comfortable jacket! You can twist, lift your arms straight over your head, bend over to net that beautiful trout without feeling like your going to rip out the seams. If you're looking for a light weight jacket that will keep you warm, dry and keep the wind out, look no further! Buy this jacket, you will not be disappointed! Thanks Simms!

Great jacket. Review by Oregon steelhead
Two bills or less depending on where you shop for a gore tex jacket is a great deal for a Rain JACKET vs some other brand...Light jacket which mean you have to layer just right(hiking vs walking). Had kept me warm in below freezing and dry in very wet condition. Velcro on the sleeves could use Simms higher jacket technology but for the price you can't complain. Two front pockets are long and deep, fleece lined pockets works great. Inner parts does have fleece lined that keeps you warm/annoying but overall I would recommend this to a friend.

Mostly Good Review by Chap
The jacket is great and lightweight but I cannot recommend it for one major flaw - there is no drawstring around the face of the hood. Over a weeks fishing in Alaska, every time the wind blew hard or whenever riding in a boat facing forward, the hood would balloon and send cold air and rain around my face and down the back of my neck. If there had been a drawstring around the hood face, then this could have been tightened down and I would have been happy. Other Simms jackets have the hood face drawstring. I would choose them over this jacket.

Awesome! Review by Charles
This jacket is perfect for rain, cooler temps, or keeping the wind out. Have used it 4 times now and could not be happier with it. For even colder days I combine it with some fleece layering and stay comfortable even at low temps.Great jacket, great price!

BAD DESIGN Review by Dave D
Jacket falls short on three key areas: velcro wrist tabs catch on fly line constantly, fleece liner is "sticky" when sliding over a fleece jacket and does not have a rear pouch. Sure wish I had spent another $100 to get the better model that fixed all these flaws.

Out - standing! Review by SLO Fly fish Guy
An outstanding jacket and exceptionally well-made, as shown in the tiniest details. Whoever designed this understood the core needs of a fisherman and didn't load it down with unnecessary "features," at an exorbitant price. Two coiled zingers, nice big fly box pockets, well-designed hood and visor, warm lining at the collar and in the hand pockets, net attachment on the back and a back pocket big enough for your lunch and an emergency kit. For anything where I might be fishing in cooler weather or the rain, this is now my go-to jacket. And, at about $200, it's a bargain!
