The Foundation's Seal of Recommendation is granted to sun protection products that have been reviewed by and meet the stringent criteria of an independent Photobiology Committee. One of the first programs offered by the Foundation, it quickly gained acceptance from consumers for setting the standard for effective sun protection with sunscreen products, sunglasses, specially treated auto and residential window film, umbrellas, clothing and laundry products that wash UV protection into clothing. To earn the Seal of Recommendation, a manufacturer must provide scientific data showing that its product sufficiently and safely “aids in the prevention of sun-induced damage to the skin.” The data are reviewed by a volunteer committee of photobiologists – experts in the study of the interaction between ultraviolet radiation and the skin. At Simms, sun protection is a critical component of our sportswear offering. Through a combination of fabric construction, design and finish, we offer a wide range of clothing that features a minimum UPF of 30 (very good) up to UPF of 50 (excellent). UPF stands for Ultraviolet Protection Factor and indicates how much of the sun's UV radiation is absorbed. A fabric with a rating of 30 will allow only 1/30th of the sun's UV rays to pass through. This means the fabric will reduce your skin's UV radiation exposure significantly. All of our UPF finishes last the life of the garment, an industry standard of 30 washings.

Overall Alas this is a rare instance where simms have not given enough thought to the product? I am currently out in the Seychelles on one of the Atolls there. We are fishing 8 hour days in the blazing sun and alas sun protection factor 30 for a garment just is not even close to being sufficient. Even the guides here are using 50+ sunscreen as a minimum and I and many of the others in the party are still burning using the same. For a truly effective tropical fishing shirt, the protection factor needs to be way higher than only 30. Maybe great on a dull day, but under normal tropical conditions, noone should risk using the shirt and burning their torso believing that they will be ok. Dleighted to chat the issue throgh further with the company(Posted on 7/17/12)

Overall This shirt is super durable. Used all season with no wear issues- cleans up easy. Even had a bad tumble and fabric did not tear or rip. Also great placement on the pockets- just enough.(Posted on 7/17/12)

Overall This is a must have shirt for fishing in the tropics.Very breathable and protects you from the suns harmful rays. The subtle colors don't spook fish while on the bow casting.(Posted on 7/17/12)
