Not Quite There Review by Bubba
I bought this bag because it looked pretty durable and waterproof. The outside pocket zipper was not, constantly letting water in that compartment, and now the zipper doesn't zip right. Let's call it broken.

The inside vertical pockets have started to separate from the bag; no bueno.

I wish the water/rod tube holders had some rubber or grippy material on part of the inside to help prevent rod tubes from riding up and out.

In short, not a very water resistant or durable backpack, which is why I bought it.

Great bag - Alaska backcountry fishing Review by Steve
I go to Alaska on 8-10 day river trips and this bag held up beautifully. It is lightweight and quite waterproof in the main bag. The zippered front pouch should not be used for anything that cannot get wet because water does get in and during a long heavy rain with the bag sitting in the boat or on the ground, the pocket will pool with water. There are heavier duty waterproof backpacks, but they are much heavier. This pack has lasted over 2 years so far with two trips to alaska and several NW steelhead trips. When it does wear out, I will be getting the same one as a replacement.

Also, I did have a problem with a different simms pack and Simms customer service is the best I have ever experienced.

If only the zip could be at the top! Review by Herman
Awesome bag, comfortable and just enough space. The outer zip should have been at the top and horisontal. As it is, the zip pocket fills with water when you wade through a river.

Don't Get It Wet Review by Roger
Wore on a three day trip to the Metolius and the bottom portion of the pack proved to be about as waterproof as a cotton sweatshirt. I wore the bag while wading and never dipped the bottom of the bag more than a couple of inches in the water. It didn't take long to notice that my bag had let in quite a lot of water; soaking my contents.

Extremely disappointed as I had expected more from Simms.

Solid Workhorse.... Review by Y.Satchel
I don't fish, but I used this bag as a bike messenger and photographer in NYC for nearly three years. Overall I was pretty impressed by the quality and durability, and it never failed to draw compliments from coworkers and pedestrians alike. It's expandable capacity was crucial when carrying large loads, and I never worried about any of my packages or camera gear getting wet in the worst downpours and blizzards the North East had to offer. Yea, the internal organization lacks a bit, and the front-loading flat pocket doesn't allow for the easy carry of larger accesorries, but that's not really what a roll top like this is built for; cram it with as much gear as it can fit and get going is more like it. I wasn't 100% happy with it as it aged, but I attribute that in part to the fact that I used it for a purpose other than what it was intended for. regularly loading and unloading on sidewalks, as well as a few crashes on the tarmac left it not quite as water proof as it was initially and the seams were no longer as tight as I remembered them by the time I put it to rest. At 6'3" I would echo Ralph from Norcals comments about the inadequate hip belt placement, but I stuck with the sternum strap and that kept my loads in place well enough on the bike and off. All-in-all i would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a versatile, reasonably well constructed bag at a competitive price point.

Versatile Review by Pat - NY
This roll-top is the way to go. It keeps the goods bone dry and the minimalist inside makes for quick easy access coming or going. Good travel and boat bag, comfortable and easy to use wading / guiding bag, glad I got it.

Overall Love It Review by Spawn Sack
I've had this pack for about a month and overall I love it. I bought it for winter steelhead fishing when the weather is often wet and nasty. On the plus side the construction appears very solid. The two exterior water bottle holders are a nice addition. The exterior zipper compartment is also nice and has lots of room. Although this compartment is not technically waterproof, since the zipper is vertical (if you're wearing it fishing) the zipper doesn't get hammered with water and seems to keep everything bone dry. The pack is also comfortable to wear all day on the river. On the minus side there isn't much internal organization in the main compartment. There are two sleeves that you can put some smaller things in. That's it. I suppouse the benifet of only these compartments is you can easily stuff in large bulky items (a jacket, etc). Before buying the pack I used a vest for years and found myself needing to buy a few more tupperware containers etc to keep stuff organized inside the bag. I ditched the vest as it was starting to give me a sore back with all the weight in the front, and in the rain everything - including the vest - gets drenched. Tackle in the pack is much less accessible, but a least it's all bone dry and the weight is carried better than a vest. I keep the essentials in my wading jacket and everything else in the pack. So far it's a system that works for me. With slightly better internal organization I'd give this pack a 5/5

Love the design, but... Review by WCS - Saskatoon, SK
Love the design of this bag, but not overly impressed with the durability. Season number 3 saw many of the seams blow out. I plan to buy another one, but would like to see a little more durable material used in the construction of the bag.

excellent product Review by Phillip - Kitimat,BC, Canada
Super happy with this bag, I used it every trip. Perfect amount of room for day tripping and it never leaked even in some of the most extreme down pours.

Great Bag! Review by Capt Matt - East Norwalk, CT
This bag is a beach guides dream. I have been using this for 2 years and the durability and size is perfect for guiding my clients on the beach - it handles all the added gear and clothes I need to carry along and I never need to worry about water because its bulletproof. Also use it on the boat and for traveling, the weatherproof elements and the overall size fits my needs perfectly.
