Product Care

Toray® Wader Care:

Toray® waders are breathable though not as breathable as GORE-TEX®. They do not have the same properties as GORE-TEX® and therefore finding pinholes will not be possible using the alcohol test. Care for Simms wader with Toray® technology then as you would a GORE-TEX® wader. Make sure to dry them out after use and do not wear jeans, and never use a dryer to dry them.

We are not able to replace the feet on Toray® waders. We are only able to put custom feet on GORE-TEX® waders.

Washing - Use a front load machine or hand wash. Use cold water and normal detergent that does not contain bleach. Once you have washed the waders make sure you dry them properly start by drying the inside first. Never put your waders in the dryer, the heat will adversely affect the seam tape on your waders and will void your warranty.

  • Toray® fabric technology was developed specifically for fishing waders. The QuadraLam™ fabric featured in the Freestone® and Blackfoot™ waders is a heavy-duty engineered fabric with a microporous waterproof coating that utilizes 2-layer coated fabric, a single membrane layer and a tricot backer to offer improved durability.

Leaks can't slow me down now! Review by SGM retired
Bought my waders Dec 2013, I'm active duty Soldier, fish 3 days a week maybe 4- just over medium hard workload... About springtime in MD I noticed my crotch getting cooler, my under wader fleece or nylon pants as spring came on were always wet due to the pace I kept and miles I covered... However I had suspicions that kept growing. I finally completed my 31st year of active service in July 2014 and went on final vacation until my final discharge Sep 30, 2014,,, imagine what I've been doing - right fishing 5-7 days a week, all with intent on possibly entering the fly fishing industry as a second career--- today 31 Aug 2014 I didn't fish because yesterday I declared I had enough, I COULDN'T HAVE SWEAT THAT MUCH, I was soaked! So I did a inside out, fill my waders with water and low and behold,,, the Simms company had sold me sub quality gear!!! Then I read these reviews (I don't read Simms reviews I just buy on reputation) so I see you have or had a problem??? Well I almost got a year, probably less, but can stand it no longer--- can someone contact me please so we can move up, I think my career needs new gear anyway... You get a three even though I want to give you a 5 cause of all the other gear I have is a five...
Thanks. SGM

Buy Gor-tex...Toray is Inferior Review by Say to NO to Toray
Bought toray freestone waders for several people last spring. Found out quickly that toray does not breath anything like gor-tex. After 1 year all of the toray waders need repair or replacement. Simms gor-tex waders purchased 8 years ago are in better shape than most 1 year old toray waders. I hope that simms will consider to cut, or greatly reduce price, toray from their line.

Freestone waders Review by Bobby
So far so good with the freestones, have put a lot of miles on them in and around the Salmon River in NY. Getting in and out of boats, trudging through the undergrowth and kneeling on rocks and mine have yet to give out. Here's hoping for a leak free summer on the Unalakleet River in Alaska!

They were great Review by Eric R
My wife bought me these for fathers day a while back and boy was I happy. Until about the fourth trip out they developed leaks in the crotch and lower leg area. I have sent them back and was told they are being replaced because of a manufacturing defect. Lets hope these last a while longer. Customer service was tops though.

Value for money Review by Acko
Early on I tried other brands because they were cheaper. Big mistake. Over the course of many seasons Simms gear is the best value for money.

Good so far Review by Mark
Wore these on a very cold day in 33 degree water temp. They held up great. Hope they dont leak in the groin as in other reviews. I have heard Simms is great about repairing or replacing items-through the grapevine. So far they have held up. Cant wait to break them in during a winter or spring thaw here in Northern Ohio.

And still going strong Review by A_Ribis
I bought my first and only pair in 2006. Sent them back to Simms for a few pin holes in 2007 and are still going strong today. Best $200 I have ever spent on any fishing item.

Great pair of waders, with no leaks. Review by Sparse No Gray Hackle
I love these boots! I owned the guide version of your waders and wore them out. They developed a few leaks last year and I could not find the holes using what I thought was the proper approach, inverting the boots, then using a flash light on the inside of them in the dark. Apparently, isopropyl alcohol would have given me a better result of where those micro-holes were, but in the end, I just threw them out (6 years old) and purchased the freestone version. I am in the first season of wearing them and no leaks! They fit great, they are light weight compared to my last pair of waders and the new ones allow me maximum leg movement in getting up and down the banks of my favorite eastern rivers. Keep up the good work!

Disappointed !!! Review by Jay
Bought a pair of these waders in the spring fished the summer maybe a dozen times. Was out the other day fishing the fall Atlantic salmon run, with the water temp dropping, a leak in the crotch area started to leak through made for a short fish needless to say, not a good area for cold water! Hope simms will help me out, I expected more for the price and name. They are a very comfortable wader on a good note.

Spend the extra bucks and get the G3 waders Review by Mike
Had them for less than a month then started to leak in the groin area.

Traded them up for the Simms G3 waders and what a difference in quality and fitment.
