Double-Duty Mountaineering Jacket!?

Ridiculous is how well this jacket performs. I not only use it daily for guiding - I use it as my mountaineering shell. Totally utilitarian - it outperforms shells from Mountain Hardwear, Pataguchi, Outdoor Research, etc. Insane rain? No problem. Blizzard snow and spindrift? Perfect. When everyone else is wet - I'm dry. Very well thought out pockets and cuffs. Even looks decent wearing around town.

This jacket is everything I wanted and more in a wading jacket. The design is great for long days of fishing, and it holds up in the brisk Montana morning air. I have had other jackets before and this one outperforms them all. Definitely a great pick, and definitely a jacket I would recommend to anyone.

This Jacket far exceeds my expectations! I fish Northern Oregon all year long and would not do it without this jacket! I have previously used my old Marmot ski jacket and have water running down my sleeves and around my neck. This jacket goes chest deep in water and can hold up through a two hour squall while rowing a drift boat. I always come back to the truck dry underneath. I love this jacket.

Great jacket, the only problem is that neoprene cuffs are not at all around the wrist, and when you introduce the arm in the water for take pictures or release fish, some water get into and wet my shirt arms.

My first impression of this jacket was not a good one, at first glance, but since then I've had to revise my opinion. The first jacket I bought I wore completely out, using it wade fishing in salt water for about 5 years. Now, you may think that it didn't last too long, but you see, I guide so I'm in the water a lot. This is by far the most durable, best fitting jacket I've ever owned. I love that the water-tight sleeves keep me warm and dry, which is important when your standing in the water hours on end, in the dead of winter. Its so good, that I wouldn't want to be caught without one, so I have another hanging in the closet waiting for its turn.

I got one of these when they first came out, and loved it except for the very stiff dry suit type zipper. The current model has a less difficult zip. The jacket design is great: the stand-up collar is a real advantage whether the hood is up or down, and there is tons of storage in the pockets for fly boxes, a tip wallet for the Spey line, tippet spools, gloves and tuque, and some snacks. The chest pockets are nice and high for deep wading and for using a double hander. And with the velcro-on fly patch, I've got the functionality of a complete vest, but everything stays dry -- including me!

This jacket is just awesome. Big pockets, retractor cords for nippers/hemos, and a hood that you can cinch so tight a hurricane couldn't take it off. There are so many good things about this jacket I'd waste your time telling you all of them. I left it at a friends house when I was out fishing with him two months ago...he won't send it back. Once you have one you'll wonder how you survived without it. One of my best purchases ever.

When my old wading jacket gave out, I was looking to replace it with another high quality jacket. It is difficult finding a good wading jacket that will fit a large person. I'm 6'3" 225lbs. I then tried on the Simms G3 Guide jacket at my local fly shop and was sold. The sleeves are a perfect fit for my long arms, the body lenght is just right for my torso, best of all this jacket has kept me dry in torrential down poors. I always carry my G3 guide jacket on any fishing trip. I would highly recommend this jacket to anyone looking for a superb wading jacket.

I've worn my G3 guide jacket year-round for 4 years and can attest to its exceptional quality, function and overall performance. From steelhead fishing in northwest British Columbia and southeast Alaska in April to chasing Arctic grayling and sheefish in northern Canada and relying on it to stave off flash downpours while fishing permit and tarpon in the caribbean - my G3 guide jacket has done it all, and continues to outperform all previous jackets I've owned. The folks at Simms have gone above and beyond in designing a jacket that meets the torture test of professional guides such as myself, as well as discerning anglers the world over. I've recommended this jacket to many clients as well as guides without reservation. You can check out the rest, but value for money you can't beat the Simms G3 guide jacket.

As a guide I have to be the first one out of the vehicle and the last one in. After four years of professional and social use I still have not had to spray on a water proof substance. The fish do not care if it's raining, in fact they seem to bite better. The hood is perfectly designed for adjustments to the condition of the rain fall, even if the rain is blowing from the side.
You will take for granted how dry you are when your buddies take off their outer ware at the end of a rainy day fishing. It will make you smile.
