I took a while on deciding to buy this vest, the cost was a major factor. This vest is light and feels great on when empty, I haven't filled all of the pockets yet, the pockets have plenty of room, there's so many. Even with some weight to the vest it feels good. I like that there's so many pockets and everything is not a hassle to reach for. So many features in a small vest! Love it!

I looked at this vest for a long time before getting it. Wow..... I dont know how I ever fished without it. It's like it was designed just for me. There is so much room but at the same time it keeps everything close and out of the way like the snap up rod holder and the magnets to hold my tools out of the way while not in use.. I really like how it is shorter than my previous vests which allows me to wade deeper and keep my gear dry. It also spreads the load out so I can fish all day and forget I am even wearing it. This vest easily hilds 3 times the gear as my previous one. The built in tippet tenders are also extremely convienent. This is truly the vests of all vests and I know it will last me a lifetime. If you are on the fence with this one don't be. Buy it! You won't regret it!

Too much storage space is never enough. This vest has plenty of storage. With all that storage come weight. The G3 handles it well. It's very comfortable across the shoulders and balances the load very nicely. I'd like to see pockets that won't hold water. Water can get in the pockets quickly if you wade too deep but then it doesn't drain out. I'm thinking of melting some holes in the bottom of the pockets. I have several vests but use this one guiding as well as fishing on my own. You know it's good when your still comfortable at the end of a long day with less than skilled clients.

More storage space than I expected. Just found another small zipper pocket this year after 3 years of use. Believe it or not the two lower front pockets could be larger, I have a hard time with my big water proof fly boxes. Honestly, clients ask me what some of the features are on the vest and I still have no clue as to their use. A quick guide to all features and pockets would be useful.
Make sure your portable rain gear is large enough to go around not only you but your vest also. You will have so much stuff in your vest when it rains you will spend 2 days drying everything out.

When you have to wear a vest . . .

Pretty much the gold standard. The Guide Vest has been with me since they first came out many moons ago. I've tried lots of vests, chest, and fanny packs but always return to the Simms Guide vest.
Way more pockets than I'll ever use but it is better to have pockets than need them. Extraordinarily comfortable even with a full load all day. Can get pretty hot though. I do NOT like the wrap around zipper on the lower main pockets. I immediately take a soldering iron to them so the zip can't go all the way and flap open. Top entry is fine with much less risk of losing stuff. Chest pockets perfect size for a box of dries and a nymphs. I'd rather the big pocket behind the neck wasn't divided into two. I liked the old single pocket version for keeping big streamer box high and dry.
Lots of options that I have no idea how to use or what they're for. Instruction manual .pdf would be nice.
