Opening Day in PA last weekend was my first all-day outing with these. They are "As Advertised."
Good fit even with fleece wader pants and heavy socks; very comfortable for all-day use. 5-ply Gore-Tex through the seat was noticeable but not cumbersome. A little less flexible than my 3-ply Waist-High version, but worth it when slipping down on a thorny bank (intentionally of course).
I was slightly disappointed that I couldn't take full advantage of the pockets, retractor and hemostat clip(there's a little nib to keep your hemo's from dangling) while wearing a tech pack vest. Minimalists will be able to go on the water with these sans vest; room for 2 fly boxes in the small zipper pockets.
Well designed zipper, and functional, too. Relief without disrobing is a facet that should not be overlooked. Hydration Packs + Zippers = Relief. It also serves well for ventilation. Moreover, they are far easier to get in- and out-of with the zipper. Another reviewer related it to a pair of pants. Agreed.
My only sources of constructive criticism are a lack of D-Rings and being designed more for Right Handed Fishermen. It would have been nice to see a D-Ring or two on each hip to attach a net or staff. The hemo-clip is on the Right Chest which is easier to access if you're Right Handed. Lefties like me will have to adapt, I suppose.
By *FAR* the most expensive waders I've ever purchased. Their quality and features (thus far), however, are proving their value. I'll gladly throw a few extra dollars to something made in The U.S.A. any day of the week.
Well done, Simms.

I purchased my G4 @ SOCAL Fly-fishing SD after 7 months of researching to see what would work best for me. No regrets. Got out on the water this past AUG 2011 in Northern Cal and was supberbly impressed with the fit and finish.. I wore them for hours and no issues while walking and in the streams.
I purchased the socks and SIMMS system undergarments which made the full day experience outstanding.
I did try other waders, and observed the waders worn on my guide, and am convinced that I made the right investment in waders. I highly recommend the G4 Waders, You will not be disappointed.

Excellent waders that I have used for the last 2 years all over the world in some of the roughest terrain imaginable.
The front zipper is a lifesaver for biobreaks and for those hot days and sweaty hikes.
I find the socks to be way too large even for my size 10 feet and I need to wear 2 pairs of hiking socks to stop any chafing.
Superb waders, durable and very well made.

This was not my first wader. I purchased them when they first came out. The zip is great for the obvious reason. However, just as important, it gives you the option to open and vent when walking. This ability is right up there with being able to de-hydrate. If you over heat when walking in,... I guarantee you will be cold.
I have used this wader summer and winter on every trib to and on the Skeena, the T, all over AK, Haida Guaii, OR, WA & NoCA. It is tough, warm and cool. Not cool being neat, but cool being able to vent. If you can wear out the zipper, Simms will stand by their product and make good, but I doubt that you ever will.

I have owned a pair of these since they first came out and it is the first pair of waders that has gotten me through multiple winter steelhead seasons. Not having to take off my raincoat to take a leak in the middle of a drenching is worth every penny to me and I am very happy (and dry) in these waders; Day in and day out. Keep up the good work!

My first waders. Love em! No binding in the crotch are, thin, light, comfortable, and plenty of room. I use the Boa boots with it, feels great! I love the zipper feature works great when you need to relieve yourself. The G4Z looks slim in the leg area but are not they are a bit baggy but in a good way, my guess so you can layer or wear thick clothing underneath like jeans. The front zipper does not let water in. I will stay with this wader model when my pair wears out and buy these again.

I've used this wader over 2 years now. I was hesitant when I switched from G3 to this.
I love the zipper and the zippered pockets. Very easy to access fishing stuffs. I have hip/chest pack that i rarely use because this wader has enough compartments. My setup is left lg pocket for lg multi compartment fly box, right for gloves or extra things that day. left front small pocket for tippets, sinkers, and indicators. right small pocket for forceps and scissor(i like to modify flies on location to match). Just keep putting them exactly where they are and you will never fumbling try to remember which pocket you placed you items.
The fit is looser from waist to chest unlike G3, i didn't like it in the beginning but the designer must have thought of it long and hard. The extra room is nice for layers of clothing in cold weather also for me to carry bottle water and snacks. The belt will stop the stuff to go further down. just remember to unload them before you unzip. Btw, the zipper works just like advertised, it takes a little practice but it's very functional.
Durability is even better than G3, it's thicker, yet seamlessly become your second skin. I don't baby my wader, and after 2 years i only have very small leak that is not worth fixing yet.
The fit, what can i say, it's like wearing your fav jeans. This is my 3rd simms, and they all fit very well.
In short, you just simply can't go wrong with this wader. I am not a guide, but fish as often as one.

After guide fishing for 25 years and trying all different types of waders, these are by far the most durable, best fitting waders I've ever owned. They also give me complete freedom of movement, which is extremely important to me. When I'm fighting the wind, waves and rocks, I don't want to have to be fighting my waders too. To top it all off, I have always been pleased with the way Simms stands behind their products, especially after the abuse I put them through. I've never been sorry I spent the money on these waders.

the best wader iv ever worn. up until 2 years ago I always bought cheap waders and thought if i got 6 months out of them of hard guiding and fishing that I got my moneys worth. I finally splashed out on these 2 years ago and to this day they still havent had a leak!! everything about these waders is excellent, the shoulder straps are more comfortable than any other wader and I now wonder how i managed without a zip before, it makes all the difference getting out of them when fingers are cold. the stretch pockets fit fox fly boxes perfectly. these waders eliminate the use of a waist coat. 10/10 and if i ever wear through them i will buy another pair!

I have been wearing Simms waders for a lot of years now and they have always been the best. The new G4Z is the evolution of a great wader line up. I am not easy on my waders and guide in remote rivers with heavy brush. These waders have yet to fail me after two years they are still going strong.
The zipper is one of those things that you wonder how you lived without before? They are a pricey wader but if your time on the water is limited by a busy life you don't want to waste a minute with leaky, cold , cheap waders.
Fishing is my life so why would I buy anything less than a Simms G4Z??

After 3 years of heavy use mine have finally developed seam leaks and they'll be replaced with another pair of G4Zs. They've been to Terrace, Alaska West, and all over Southern Alberta without a problem.
The front seams are brilliant, hand warmer pockets placed perfectly, front pockets are the right size (and stretchy) to fit fly boxes and spools of tippet. I think the only thing I'd change on these would be to add a second zinger on the right side like the Simms wading jackets.

The guys who designed these waders deserve an anglers' Nobel Prize. I wear the waders through hot and cold days and sometimes forget I'm wearing them at the end of the day while having a beer with my buddies. All those who doubted the zipper could stand the rigors of fishing season after season have been proved wrong!

For those of us with a little age these waders make it so much easier to get in and out of. The zipper has been flawless and the waders are warmer due to the leg layers coming up higher than my G3's

Ok, it is convenient having a zipper when you need to jettison some excess coffee. That is handy. The zipper also makes it easier on and off and helps air out the waders after a long day. All those things are nice. What I like most about these and my other pair of G4s is the warmth. I rarely get cold anymore! I wear a pair of fleece wader pants and on the coldest days I add a pair of those toe warmers skiers use. I can fish all day.

There is no question that Simms waders are the best in the industry. When you are in your waders over 200 days a year, at 10 hours a day, and they still hold up. You know you are wearing something special. I highly recommend spending some money upfront, on the best in the industry. Simms waders are worth every penny, and you won'y be replacing them every year or two. The front seams allows for ease of movement and the very well designed pockets, shoulder straps and belt adjustments work flawlessly as expected. Thank you Simms and designers for a dependable product.
