  • The Foundation's Seal of Recommendation is granted to sun protection products that have been reviewed by and meet the stringent criteria of an independent Photobiology Committee. One of the first programs offered by the Foundation, it quickly gained acceptance from consumers for setting the standard for effective sun protection with sunscreen products, sunglasses, specially treated auto and residential window film, umbrellas, clothing and laundry products that wash UV protection into clothing. To earn the Seal of Recommendation, a manufacturer must provide scientific data showing that its product sufficiently and safely “aids in the prevention of sun-induced damage to the skin.” The data are reviewed by a volunteer committee of photobiologists – experts in the study of the interaction between ultraviolet radiation and the skin. • At Simms, sun protection is a critical component of our sportswear offering.  Through a combination of fabric construction, design and finish, we offer a wide range of clothing that features a minimum UPF of 30 (very good) up to UPF of 50 (excellent).  UPF stands for Ultraviolet Protection Factor and indicates how much of the sun's UV radiation is absorbed.  A fabric with a rating of 50 will allow only 1/50th of the sun's UV rays to pass through.  This means the fabric will reduce your skin's UV radiation exposure significantly.  All of our UPF finishes last the life of the garment, an industry standard of 30 washings.

Great Coverage but fogs glasses Review by =T=
Overall
I've been out in the Gulf Stream many times now using this product. I love the coverage. I would give it 5 stars if the holes would allow my breath to escape rather than fogging up my glasses. The nose adjustment to reduce the fogging either puts this over my eyes or off my nose reducing the well needed coverage. Keeps the bugs off my neck and head. Very comfortable in sweltering heat. Cleans up well. I soak it in ice water for a nice cooling action lasting about 20 minutes during the midday sun, it dries quikly but helps beat the heat.

Great protection, but... Review by Steve M
Overall
The nose holes tore apart and now there is a giant hole. Basically making the product useless. I've only used it a handful of times, maybe a week total. Kinda upset it ripped already. On the other hand it is comfortable, and protects your skin from the sun.

sunarmor Review by pete moss - southflorida
Overall
you had a good product with the old sun mask it just needed to be longer at the neck. This sun armor is difficult to get the holes lined up and has lots of gaps resulting in sun damage I get a big gap at the bridge of my nose. And at my temples. There needs to be more material between the breathing holes and the top of the nose. Also need to have more coverage around the temples. then it would get 5 stars

Mouth hole issues Review by Matt - Florida Keys
Overall
Product fits well. Protects as well as any other. I do like the drape so you don't get the "Buff Burn". Big problem with the mouth and nose holes. They wore out and created one big hole in less than a week of wearing it everyday. But it protects from the sun on a Florida Keys flat, so can't be all bad.

Still not perfect Review by Nick - Water Mill, NY
Overall
I bought this for one reason only, to hopefully have eliminated the dreaded polarized glasses breath fog. The cut in slits looked like this would do it. I once tried to customize one of my old gators but the nose was too exposed to the sun. This was slightly better in protecting your skin. You still have to pull it down to allow your breath to escape without fogging your lenses, defeating the sun protection factor. This does fit much better than other popular companies versions. I would recommend it for that only. The slits in the material don't do anything. Too bad. Simms usually gets it right on the first shot.

Sun Armor Camo Review by Jordan Simpson - Vancouver, BC
Overall
Ended up using this exact one while chasing monster bonefish in Hawai'i. The first day I fished I did not fully cover my ears and they got horribly burnt- like crispy bacon burnt. The remainder of my trip I made sure to fully cover up. I do know though that this thing works wonders because had I not been wearing this the first day you would think that I was Freddy Kruger. One thing I would suggest though is to still put on sunscreen on your face- even though you wont burn and you are safe you will still get a wicked tan through it- as evident from all the photos of me looking like a raccoon from my sunglass tan. This thing is a no brainer and should be in every bag headed to a sunny destination. It is comfortable, functional, and most importantly you look bad ass wearing it- and that is what's most important...right?!

Great Sun Protection! Review by Yukon_fly
Overall
I've used both the SunArmor and SunGaiter and found that this product provides much better coverage and hence protection (especially in the lower neck / upper shoulders). It fits especially well with a crew-neck shirt, or a button-up collar when you don't want to have every last button done up. I ran into some trouble (burns) due to a gap between the SunArmor and my shirt a few times - not the case with the SunGaiter. If you're planning on fishing the tropics (or even in the summer sun in Alaska) - buy one! I found it also serves well as a bug guard to keep the flying insects off the back of your neck.
