CleanStream™

Product Care

Footwear Care:

For proper cleaning of your footwear to descrease the likelihood of spreading Aquatic Invasive Species, please reference our CleanStream™ page.

If using in saltwater always clean and rinse to prevent corrosion.

Use a brush to remove dust and dirt. Choose an old vegetable brush or toothbrush. For maximum thoroughness, remove laces prior to cleaning. Use specialized boot cleaner, saddle soap or maybe a mild dishwashing soap with luke-warm water.

Do not use bar soap or detergents.

Do not place wet boots close to a heat source (fireplace, campfire, wood stove, radiator, heater, sunny windowsill) as this can weaken adhesives and cause materials to become brittle or shrink.

Dry using natural methods (air dry) and try to keep them out of the sun for long periods of time. Boots dry faster when positioned upside-down. If desired, stuff a sheet or two of newspaper into each boot to absorb moisture. Change the paper each hour.

If you see any mold on your boots, brush in a mixture of 80% water and 20% vinegar.

Over time the use of leather conditioners may provide increased water repellency and can prevent cracking and drying of the leather.

Store footwear in a place where temperatures are stable and normal. Do not store footwear in attics, garages, car trunks or any unventilated spaces.

Never put footwear in washing machine.

  • CleanStream™ is a design philosophy that runs through our line of wading footwear. While not specific to a product feature, this designation does indicate that the product includes features and/or materials that are more resistant to "hitch-hiking" organisms – have less exposed stitching, fewer ridges & pockets and utilize non-absorbent materials – all making the boots easier to inspect, clean and dry faster. All of these elements assist anglers in doing their part to prevent the spread of invasive species. Good grip, quality lacking Review by PeaceOutBrownTrout
Overall
I saved up for a few months to have "one of the best" boots out there. I will say they do grip well, and I have not added studs or cleats yet. I have been out more than 30 times thus far, so I have had enough time to give my thoughts: The right boot is considerably tighter than the left. I double checked that the sizes matched up, I have laced and relaced several times, even had the fly shop double check the size for me. The left boot is perfect, the right is tight. It makes for a full day on the water uncomfortable. I thought maybe after they broke in it would be better, but that is not the case. I am wearing G3 waders with these. The soles seam to be wearing exceptionally fast. I only put them on when I park the truck by the river, and hike out to my spots. The soles are chunking apart at the toe. Laces are already starting to fray. Last thing which is cosmetic is the gray fabric by the laces does not match boot to boot. One boot is gray, while the other has a green tinge to it.

I will say these are really easy to clean, as I do with them after every excursion. They do grip exceptionally well. My left foot is very comfortable at least, and they are great hikers in boulder fields. For the price, and for saving up for a long time to buy them, I expected more.

Beefy Review by Jesse
Overall
I bought these to replace the 3rd pair of a competitors boot that I wore through in 6 months a piece. After the 3rd pair the free placement wasn't as appealing. I would note that comparably the Rivershed are a heavier boot than most. But what you give in weight you gain in comfort and especially durability. The ultra clean design and lack of excessive styling make them a great choice for those looking for function. With only the laces being permeable, this makes a good choice and an easy clean if you live near an area with a invasive species like didymo. The laces could be more durable, and the Simms replacement laces are not as nice as the originals. Streamtread sole works well, and if you pair in studs(I used Alum and Carbide) they are ready to take on anything you can pitch to them. Overall this is a great buy, and I highly recommend them as a boot. You won't need to worry about it falling apart.

Perfect for long hikes Review by NZ and MT Angler
Overall
I bought these for a trip to New Zealand. Felt boots are banned in NZ so if you are in headed to NZ, I recommend these boots. These boots were perfect for long hikes. I recently used them during some of the more crowded weeks (and brutally hot temps) in Montana and put 70 miles on them in 7 days. My feet were fine. No blisters. The one thing I recommend for the Vibram soles is to buy the AlumiBrite studs because without them you will be slipping and sliding. The studs help a lot especially for river crossings and navigating through pocket water while chasing South Island browns upstream around boulders and steering them out of snags only to have them take you into your backing as you stumble after them downstream...

Top of the Line Wading Boot Review by Kisutch Katcher
Overall
Going on my 4th year in these boots and have yet to even replace the laces. I fish salmon and steelhead rivers over 100 days a year. These are the best boots for wading rocky, muddy or mossy rivers with excellent traction provided by the studs or cleats. At $180, they are pricey, but the quality and comfort make the purchase justified, especially if you are a serious angler. Simms at its finest!

needs better speed lace hooks Review by leopard 'bow
Overall
When I discovered the water I fish each summer in Alaska no longer allowed felt soles, I bought these on a friends recommendation. Boots were comfortable and fit well over my new G4's, but were slicker than snot on river rock. Maybe I'm just spoiled by felt soles? The real dissappointment was when at the end of the second day, the laces started cutting through at the speed eyelets. First the outer sheath on the laces cut, then the the inner lace cut. I tied them in knots to get two more days, then finished the week out with the laces from my hiking boots. Cheap stamped hooks on 180 dollar boots? Really Simms? Machined hooks would add, like, 2 bucks to the price? Oh well. The G4's get a solid 5 stars.

Fantastic Boots Review by TroutManD
Overall
I've had these for a year now and just love them. They handle rough terrain like a great hiking boot. I did add a pair of "Superfeet" insoles to them for additional arch support. With the Alumibite cleats they are just fantastic along the river or in it. These boots are not cheap but I must say they deliver and you will not be disappointed.
Tip my hat to Simms for making a great quality product.

Best wading boots that I have ever owned. Review by Alex
Overall
I have had these boots for 3 years now and love then. The only thing that I ever had to do to fix these boots was only to replace the laces once! I recently put in the hard bite cleats on and love them even more (which I didn't think was possible). They handle everything from ice to mud to boulders very well and with great ankle and foot support. Once my current pair finally wears out I will get another pair to replace it. Simms, as usual, developed an exceptional product again!

Rivershed Boots conquered The Miracle Mile and Grey Reef in Wyoming Review by SalmotruttaSLaYeR
Overall
Having grown up wading one stream in felt boots, i was very skeptical of the grip potential of the so-called 'streamtread.' I decided, however, that for my latest trip there would be quite a bit of hiking, rock jumping, climbing in and out of canyons, and some swift wading. Taking those things into account I immediately went to Simms website and after some research, ordered the Rivershed boot. I was absolutely blown away by the amount of grip i got on mossy and smooth submerged rocks. My boots dried everynight and were ready for the next days fishing. And I simply cannot say enough about the Streamtread soles, as I waded on all surfaces through waist deep current without a hitch. Thank you Simms.
