Why Simms Waders?

Product Care

GORE-TEX® Wader Care:

The #1 tip to prolonging the life of a wader is drying your waders. It is important to dry your waders out after each use. We recommend drying the inside first (if damp) and then the outside. When drying the outside you can pull your gravel guards up until the feet are dry and then flip them down to dry the rest of the wader

Washing - Use a front load machine or hand wash. Use cold water and normal detergent that does not contain bleach. Once you have washed the waders make sure you dry them properly start by drying the inside first. Never put your waders in the dryer, the heat will adversely affect the seam tape on your waders and will void your warranty.

Fit - We offer more sizes than anyone, a good fit goes a long way to extending the life of your wader. Make it clear that people should use their exact measurements as we have already provided extra room for layering and movement.

General Care - Do not store inside your car for long periods of time excess heat will damage your waders.

Use A Mat - Always put your waders on using a protective mat to shield the neoprene feet from rocks. The Headwaters gear bag for example has a pull out mat that works great for this.

Proper Layering - Do not wear jeans under your waders. Jeans are highly abrasive wearing on your waders from the inside out. More importantly jeans and sweatpants do not transfer moisture away from the body. Use proper layering (to view our layering collection, go here). Using layers such as these will help wick moisture away from your body and assist in the waders ability to breathe.

Stains - most stain removers will work fine on our waders. As long as the stain remover does not contain bleach you should be o.k.

  • The GORE-TEX® membrane is the heart of all GORE -TEX® products. The GORE-TEX® membrane contains 9 billion microscopic pores per square inch. These pores are so small that water droplets cannot get through but water vapor can still escape. Water from the outside cannot penetrate and cold winds cannot pass through, but perspiration can escape easily, keeping you dry and comfortable all day. GORE-TEX® fabrics are created by integrating the GORE-TEX® membrane between an outer fabric and lining.

Leak between leg & book on 1st day Review by Angrt Customer
Purchased this brand new pair Headwater less than a month ago. Took it out fishing for the 1st time and found the section between right foot & right neoprene is leaking.

It is the 2nd time in 2 years I found leaky SIMMS wader all within 1 month of purchase.

Not so sure about paying extra for built-in USA quality

Seams not all is well Review by Salmon Catcher
I was initially attracted to the idea of Goretex and pulled the trigger on a pair of these. I wish I had both my time and money back. I walk quite a bit in these waders and I soon discovered that the seam tape on the inside is way too stiff and wears through quickly. I used them today and came home with wet legs. Time to yet again find the aqua seal.

Great quality, without the extras Review by Taylor
I got a pair of these to take to Alaska with me this summer, but I've been wearing them across south central Pennsylvania. Theyre holding up quite well and showing little wear, just the dirt and mud thats on them. The gor-tex reinforced crotch and legs make it nice and they are comfortable wading. So far I have no complaints, but time will tell. They get the job done, and if youre a vest/pack fisherman, they dont have all the extra pockets and zippers. However, theirs still enough room to pack some tippet, lead, and a fly box for a quick after work outing, or if youre a minimalist.

Great feeling once you commit and spend the money. Review by John
Went to the wade-fish Bighorn in March, waders filled up, froze and got skunked. Realized it was pathetic to be wearing yard-sale waders as much as I fish. Went online, ordered Patagonias from Sierra Trading Post. Ignorant to wader sizing I bought XLs (I'm 5-9, 175, size 10.5) Ordered Med/long Silver Sonics from Orvis after they gave me a credit card with free shipping and $25. Legs were right but bib came up to my chin and feet were too big. Ordered standard Medium Silver Sonics. Feet and height were right but leg seams would pull out at the rear end if I did any high stepping. Went to Cabela's, tried on Simms and voila, perfect fit in a medium. It's all in the leg and rear-end design. Decision to buy Headwaters instead of Freestones based on velcro front pouch opening on the Freestones. It would take both hands and considerable pulling to tear open the velcro, every time. Impossible with a rod in your hand (there is an inner bib pocket though). Also the Freestones are made overseas, not at the Bozeman plant. The point of all this in summary - I did the homework and in the end knew absolutely the waders I now have are what I wanted all along. Fished them last weekend and all was right in the world.

Happy but not ecstatic! Review by Mountainx
These are great! They fit perfect and I feel like they are durable. My biggest disappointment with is that there are no water proof pockets inside the chest or out. This really stinks because I like to hike and fish and have no place to put my camera or phone for emergencies. Overall I'd recommend them but I was just a little irritated with the lacking feature.

Comfortable and durable Review by Scubafish
I completely wore out a competitor's waders in 3 or 4 years. My headwaters have seen more wear than those in three years and still look almost new. The gravel guards are great. They keep me warm when I need it, but they never overheat either. They are Simms least expensive true Goretex waders made in America and all the wader I need. When these are done I will buy another pair.

Excellent and made in USA Review by Philsf1
Pros: Excellent fit and finish. Very durable waterproof fabric. Comfortable. Easy on and off. Booties fit. Bib comes up high to keep you dry. Plenty of room to layer up on cold days.

Cons: No pocket in bibs to store keys or camera. Only one belt loop. Not convertible to waist high waders on hot days.

Overall these are the standard for waders. I'd add another belt loop and an interior pocket to make these perfect.

2012 headwaters review...a little disappointed Review by mike
I bought a pair of these in October of 2012. I decided to go with Simms due to their reputation. For the price I paid, I figured that they would last more than a year. They have developed a small leak somewhere in the leg. I haven't really used them that much and always take care with them as I do all my gear. I'm disappointed because I believed I was buying a quality brand with an excellent reputation instead of going with a cheaper brand that could've probably lasted just as long. I will be contacting customer service and hope that they in fact do stand behind their product. Unfortunately, for now I have no choice but to fish with no waders or buy another pair in the meantime.

Best Move So Far This Summer Review by Capt. Blonde Jovi
I have used these waders almost daily since I received them. They are the best investment in my fly fishing gear I have made in a long time. They seem to go on and off a lot easier than any other waders I have ever used. Thanks for the great product. I cannot wait to catch a "ditch-pig" brown while wearing my new simms waders so I can submit a picture to the website!

Outstanding Review by Luv2Fish
I have worn Patagonia and Redington in the past. I won't knock the others. Just say I am a convert to the Headwaters wader because of its heaveir duty construction.
