Shaw Grigsby Reviews Simms ProDry™ GORE-TEX® Jacket and Bib
- Product Care
GORE-TEX® Outerwear Care:
Cleaning your GORE-TEX® garments regularly will extend the life of the product. It will also keep them breathable as dirt and oil can clog the GORE-TEX® membrane over time.
It is critical to wash jackets. Natural oils can damage the GORE-TEX® tape and adhesives causing a peeling effect.
Machine wash warm. Do not use fabric softener or bleach.
Remember to zip all pockets and close all Velcro cuffs before washing to prevent any damage caused by the machine.
Tumble dry on warm setting making sure not to use a high heat setting. Drying on warm will actually reactivate the DWR coating.
GORE-TEX® PRO SHELL outerwear is waterproof, exceptionally lightweight and offers the ultimate in breathability, durability and extended comfort. Constructed with a woven backer, GORE-TEX® Pro Shell garments slide easily over other layers and offer exceptional tear strength and internal abrasion-resistance.
The AquaGuard® VISLON® zipper is a revolutionary new design from the global leader in containment closures. The AquaGuard® VISLON® zipper's new tooth design provides enhanced fluid repellency vs. coil or standard individual element closures, while increasing the number of design and color options for your application.

- great at half its job Review by MTman
OverallI have to admit I was drawn in by the fresh new look of the bright orange style. I immediately regretted buying the orange version. In no way shape or form is this jacket stealthy.....trust me fish do take notice. The new cuff design is terrible. You have to sinch them down to where the large plastic piece digs into your wrist to keep water out. I spent the day steelheading yesterday and am very unpleased with the cuff design. Not at all comfortable nor functional. Water running down your arms in 30 degree temps is not a good way to spend the day. I found myself adjusting the cuffs just as much as I spent casting. The watch window is utterly useless. The heavy plastic is hot and not breathable so it fogs as soon as you have any heat on your body. The light weight fabric is awesome and the shell itself repelled rain and water very well. I am a die hard Simms fan but this product is a very expensive piece of junk. Back to my old G3 I go.

- pro dry jacket Review by Big Chrome
OverallWill have to say I was surprised to see the little thoughts that went into this jacket to make it so much better. It’s amazing how the attention to small detail can go a long way. It is light weight and as a guide that is important that day in day out your gear isn’t causing you more grief and hard work on days where the weather is giving you no break. The hood has came through in the worse conditions; not allowing water in and still giving me great vision to see. The high neck keeps you extra warm and is comfortable. Love that I am still able to have full movement when wearing this jacket all done up.

- ProDry Jacket Review Review by Capt Merritt White
OverallI like the jacket for what it basically does, and that is to keep you dry. As a long jacket I would like to see in future iterations, a two way zipper, to better access fishing pliers on my hip. I like the high "neck gaitor" collar but I find it a bit too snug to fit mid layer, collared garments underneath. As it is I can barely get my chin, mouth and nose under to hide from a gust of wind and rain. After one full season of guiding in the salt my neoprene wrist closures have started to deteriorate. The velcro wrist straps I find to be a bit stiff and bulky. The jacket desperately needs true "hand warmer" pockets, ie: FLEECE liners. non of the pockets on the chest or the hand warmers have drainage holes like other competing brands. Overall fit, aside from the collar, is good. I love the hood, as it stays put when cinched down and feels nonexistent(not enough room to tuck into collar)when not in use.

- Pro-dry Review by John
OverallI purchased this suit before a two week fishing tourney. Upon returning I found my cuffs delaminated at the seams. I sent the suit back and it took "2 months" to get my product back. This is not acceptable on its own let alone the poor retro fitted cuffs from a previous model. They also managed to melt my watch window with a press. The stipulation was if I except the fix they would give me a windstopper jacket at a discount. Luckily the flyshop returned my money because they were tired of giving me bad news. The bib also had a delaminated leg strap. Something is not right about the whole deal.

OverallThis is hands down the best raincoat I have ever owned. the flexible elbows and shoulders make this coat an excellent choice for a long day of casting in the rain.

- Great jacket Review by Mnmuskie
OverallI've used this jacket in some pretty amazingly bad weather, the stuff that I really should not have been out in. Keeping dry was never an issue. The jacket and bibs did an amazing job even in horizontal rain. The only thing I wish they would add is a lightening rod. Then I would never have to head in again. Great job Simms!!

OverallI purchased two pair of jackets and bibs, the second time my wife wore the jacket the cuff (neoprene ) started cracking, e bibs on the third time, the ankle strap separated. $1,800.00 plus tax.Now it's time to see how well the warranty is, as in, will I have to ship back and be without for weeks, etc.

- Eddie Shanagher Review by ProDry Jacket
OverallI always put my fishing clothing at the top of my list of important items when it comes to fly fishing on the many great Loughs here in Ireland. The weather sweeping in along our Atlantic seaboard is notoriously unpredicatble, and you can often get the four seasons in one day whilst out fishing. I put the G3 and G4 jackets through their paces over the past five seasons and both passed with flying colours. I have handed them on to two of my sons now (both delighted of course) and bought myself the ProDry Parka jacket. I have been testing it for the past month now, and it has already seen some of our harsh spring weather conditions. Its a cracking good jacket theres no doubt. I would only deduct half a point if the option was there, just because I miss the fleece lined pockets that the G3 and G4 possessed (handy to keep one hand warms whilst driving the boat), as well as the noticalbe absense of built in retractors which are vital for quick access to tools such as nippers and pliers as well as my Simms lip balm. These are only small things, but still I do miss them and feel its important to mention as, after all, it is an item of fishing clothing, and it has always been the Simms attention to detail factor that won me over for so many years now. Its hard to please everyone I suppose!

OverallPro Dry jacket Awesome jacket. Dont't expect it to keep you warm, just dry. Excellent features such as high face gator, watch window on sleeve, zippered hand pockets that'll stay dry even if you forget to zip them and a built in removable/wasbable sunglasses cleaner are icing on the cake. You'll never get wet wearing this jacket.
