Why Simms Waders

Product Care

GORE-TEX® Wader Care:

The #1 tip to prolonging the life of a wader is drying your waders. It is important to dry your waders out after each use. We recommend drying the inside first (if damp) and then the outside. When drying the outside you can pull your gravel guards up until the feet are dry and then flip them down to dry the rest of the wader

Washing - Use a front load machine or hand wash. Use cold water and normal detergent that does not contain bleach. Once you have washed the waders make sure you dry them properly start by drying the inside first. Never put your waders in the dryer, the heat will adversely affect the seam tape on your waders and will void your warranty.

Fit - We offer more sizes than anyone, a good fit goes a long way to extending the life of your wader. Make it clear that people should use their exact measurements as we have already provided extra room for layering and movement.

General Care - Do not store inside your car for long periods of time excess heat will damage your waders.

Use A Mat - Always put your waders on using a protective mat to shield the neoprene feet from rocks. The Headwaters gear bag for example has a pull out mat that works great for this.

Proper Layering - Do not wear jeans under your waders. Jeans are highly abrasive wearing on your waders from the inside out. More importantly jeans and sweatpants do not transfer moisture away from the body. Use proper layering (to view our layering collection, go here). Using layers such as these will help wick moisture away from your body and assist in the waders ability to breathe.

Stains - most stain removers will work fine on our waders. As long as the stain remover does not contain bleach you should be o.k.

  • The GORE-TEX® membrane is the heart of all GORE -TEX® products. The GORE-TEX® membrane contains 9 billion microscopic pores per square inch. These pores are so small that water droplets cannot get through but water vapor can still escape. Water from the outside cannot penetrate and cold winds cannot pass through, but perspiration can escape easily, keeping you dry and comfortable all day. GORE-TEX® fabrics are created by integrating the GORE-TEX® membrane between an outer fabric and lining.

Near perfect Review by weaser52
Finally waders that fit and I don't have to tuck a too large stocking foot under in my wading boot. Sweet.
I normally wear an 18/20 and the XXL fit perfectly with a bit (but not too much) room to spare for heavier clothes beneath.
Two reasons for only 4 star instead of 5 star rating ... that belt loop is way too low. It needs to come up at least an inch, maybe 2, for an average height woman. We don't have low rider waists like men. It definitely pulls when using the loop.
Second ... a drawstring at the top to snug up the bib closer to the body would be useful. I'm afraid when I loose my balance and fall in (and we all do) that the bib will fill up too quickly with water. If you are smaller around the upper chest there is a lot of room to spare and no way to snug it up.
These 2 simple design changes would make these into a perfect product.
Still I'm more than pleased with the quality, durability, and am looking forward to many seasons with them.

[Response from Simms Customer Care Team] - Thanks for the feedback Weaser. We'll pass your suggestions along to the product team.

Nearly Perfect! Review by Tracy
I love these waders, I do. They are so nearly perfect the few minor things that bug me stand out in my mind and they seem so simple to correct that I will share them.

I wear a size 18/20 in every pair of jeans I can find to try on, so I'm assuming that is my true size, but I needed the xxl full (22/24)to fit my behind, and then just barely, so it seems your plus sizes may be a little scanty in the rear.
Also, at this size the belt loop in the back is too low, bring it up an inch or so, it strains a bit and I worry it could make a hole. Finally, the gravel guards are pretty tight, makes it a struggle to get them on and off when they are flipped up. Just 1/4 of an inch looser and they'd be great.
They are a great product, keep tweaking 'em!

Awesome Product Review by Casting high & dry in Colorado
I'm so happy with my new waders. I have been struggling for years
to get the correct body & foot bed size. I have always got the body size, but the bootie was ALWAYS to big.
Now, I have a perfect fitting wader and Simms sewed in a foot bed
that is my size. I'm glad this company is expanding into women's wear. I dealt with my local Simms dealer on the special order & I just got my waders a few days ago, fast turn around & can't wait to hit the river. The new design of the seams in front is awesome. No more leaking at the seams & fishing wet all day. Thank you Simms!

Top of the line waders Review by millerjcat0418
These waders are very well made and fit just perfectly. My friends recommended Simms women's waders because the leg seams are not in the inside of the legs. This product should last a lifetime.

Great choice! Review by Natalia - Russia
Very lovely thing, no problems for two years; hope for long-long-long fishing seasons without leaks, scratches and others...

Biology friendly Review by thefishiologist
As a fisheries biologist, I spend a lot of time in my waders and subject them to incredible abuse - bushwhacking, thorns, kneeling in gravel bars, electrofishing. None of the waders I had before lasted more than one season - I was constantly gluing seams and searching for leaks. The women's headwater waders have been the best thing to happen to my field season in years. The front seams mean that I no longer get leaks in the knees from my legs rubbing together when I hike through the bush. They also allow for way better mobility when lifting my legs over logs. They are lightweight and breathable, allowing me to wear them all day without dying from heat. I'll never go back to any other wader.

Invest in the best! Review by GA2MT
The first waders I purchased were a waste of money, I thought I could get by with a lesser quality product. When I realized how a small leak in a seam ruins a great fishing day I decided to trust what I saw and heard in fly shops and on rivers. If you want it to last, buy Simms. My Simms Headwater Waders make me want to get up and head to the river. I am tough on gear and these have been more than I expected in every way. Managed to crack my tail bone but my waders looked great after the hard fall on rocks. Thanks Simms!

Perfect Review by Oregon
I just received my Simms Headwater Waders and they are a PERFECT fit. I am 5'4 and the Small Short was the perfect size, well worth the wait to have them custom made.

Highly recommended Review by Ms. Wind Knots
Finally. A gender specific, very comfortable wader. Perfect for winter wading. Used these this week, air temp 18 degrees, water 36 (tailwater). Love the hand warmer pocket & fit. Sizing is generous. I found a small/large perfect for my 5'7", 130# frame. The stocking feet were sized for a 6/7, but my size 8s were just fine with a mid weight wool sock. Plenty of room for expedition weight layers. It is obvious a lot of thought went in to designing these waders. A well made & nicely priced product.
