Why Outerwear?

Why GORE-TEX®?

GORE-TEX® Technology and Simms Gear

Product Care

GORE-TEX® Outerwear Care:

Cleaning your GORE-TEX® garments regularly will extend the life of the product. It will also keep them breathable as dirt and oil can clog the GORE-TEX® membrane over time.

It is critical to wash jackets. Natural oils can damage the GORE-TEX® tape and adhesives causing a peeling effect.

Machine wash warm. Do not use fabric softener or bleach.

Remember to zip all pockets and close all Velcro cuffs before washing to prevent any damage caused by the machine.

Tumble dry on warm setting making sure not to use a high heat setting. Drying on warm will actually reactivate the DWR coating.

great except for the collar and hood which is a deal breaker Review by Nevada
Overall
The jacket is well made and thoughtfully crafted with the exception of the collar and hood. There is no way to cinch the collar so it creates a funnel for water to seep into the jacket; a bad quality for a rain shell. I returned the jacket. Would love this jacket if it did not have the separate collar and hood configuration.

Bombproof Fishing Jacket Review by Scott
Overall
The Guide Jacket was clearly designed by fishermen. Everything is well thought out from the pockets that are big enough to hold multiple fly boxes to the inner cuff that prevents water running up your sleeves. I have worn this jacket with layers at 10 degree's ice fishing, through multiple cold rain storms and last weekend at 60 degrees fishing for Red Fish in South Carolina. This is a durable jacket, designed for cooler weather fishing, in the warmer months I can see the need to use something different. For fall, winter and spring fishing you can not go wrong with the Guide. There is no doubt that this will keep you dry and the hood has to be the best hood I have ever had on a jacket. I spent 4 hours ice fishing in the rain the last weekend in March and stayed dry and warm. I was never once bothered by the hood, which seems to magically keep you covered and stay out of the way at the same time. While this is a wadding jacket, and thus a little shorter than some might be used to, I still find that it works to wear around town and provides good coverage. I am a GORE FishingTech and own a number of other outdoor rain coats, this has to be the best designed that I have used.

Worth every penny! Review by Justin D.
Overall
Being from Upstate NY, I fish quite often in the rain and snow, so the 3-layer GORE-TEX is essential in keeping me dry. Being a gear tester for GORE, this jacket has not let me down! I especially love the two big front chest pockets to stow away fly boxes or other important gear, as well as the two built-in retractors. You can also cinch down the storm cuffs to keep water from entering the sleeves and the gathered waist also helps keep the bottom of the jacket tight to your body without being uncomforable. Overall, I highly recommend this jacket! Well worth the money!

Great Bang for the Buck Review by D Heggart
Overall
Whether I'm rowing for a client or fishing with friends, this jacket has been through some extreme weather from rain to snow. I'm on the Gore fishing tech team and bought this jacket after I got to try it out. I like the hidden zinger coils that I can stash when I'm rowing hard and not having my nippers flying back and forth. The inside wrist cuffs prevent line catching and weather blowing up the sleeve. Plenty of front pocket space. The back pocket can stash the fall run jacket so you can layer after you hiked a few miles to your run. I thought the hand warmer heater pocket was kind of foofoo until I bought a couple heat pack to see how it worked, It worked great when your hands are wet, numb and you put them into a warm pocket! I love that you can stash the hood, when deployed it fits great with a ball cap. My only input would be a little longer in the sleaves for those fully stretched out strokes on the oars. It was not a problem for every day wade fishing though. A great product I'll get years out of. Thanks Simms

busted retractor Review by CC in NOCO
Overall
Just out of box yesterday. Looks like a bombproof jacket. Arm pits do not have hardly any room for layering. Yet to wear it on the water. Pulled out the tool retractor under the right hand pocket to attach tool and it pulled right out and off of jacket. Real cheap and tacky feature of jacket. I hope to be impressed in the field or the post field review won't be so hot either. I expect quality from a $300 Simms product.

Great so far! Review by Fontanaguides.com
Overall
I have worn the Guide Jacket for a month or so and I am pleased with it! It seem to be a durable jacket that will last a good while. Keep you dry for sure. Two big front pockets on the chest a large pocket on the back and one stash pocket on the inside. All around happy!

Like a portable tent Review by Coasterbrookie
Overall
I tend to fish during the most ridiculous weather. I'd rather be on the water when others are sipping coffee at the local shop. I once had a self-proclaimed expert tell me "there's no reason to spend hundreds of dollars on Gortex. You fish maybe 6 days all year in the rain". So I guess I'm an exception? I think not. So I got this jacket because I fish in the rain ALL THE TIME!! Rain is a non-factor. This thing is like wearing a tent. Not bulky like a tent though. I absolutely love it.

Overall great package Review by Hazza
Overall
Very happy, this jacket is fantastic in the rain which is useful in Ireland (I particularly like the the high collar and zip to cover my face during major downpours) and the pockets are enormous. Biggest surprise was how good the ventilation was in the summer. Only fault I could say is that it is too light on insulation for spring fishing. The owner of my local tackle shop in his late 50s no longer fishes due to arthritis from standing in the pouring rain for 40 years!! Enough said, spend the money and you won't regret it.

Good - bring back rear pocket Review by Reed
Overall
I have an earlier version...the best features were the cuffs inside the coat to prevent line snags and the vertical zip waterproof rear pocket. The rear pocket enabled you to access it without taking off the jacket. Why did you stop making this jacket with the rear pocket???? If you put the rear pocket on it I will it.

solid Review by L "mf" T
Overall
I bought this jacket around '99 it was my second; the first was in '95. I still have the first I just grew a little bit in the mid section. This jacket has lived in my drift boat and truck possibles bag ever since. When the rain shows this jacket comes out, when the wind blows- this jacket comes out. When it's beer drinking time - well, you get the idea. The best memory I have is a trip on the Green that poured for 3 straight days. Between the 2 boats we had every brand of guide rain jacket imaginable. All 'wetted out' after day one but the Simms. They didn't have the new ones out when I bought this guy and someday I may try them but I don't know when it will be? This one keeps on trucking!
