Simms G4 Boa® Boot
- Product Care
Boa® Boot Care:
For proper cleaning of your boots to descrease the likelihood of spreading Aquatic Invasive Species, please reference our CleanStream™ page.
If using in saltwater always clean and rinse to prevent corrosion.
Use a brush to remove dust and dirt. Choose an old vegetable brush or toothbrush. Do not use bar soap or detergents.
Do not place wet boots close to a heat source (fireplace, campfire, wood stove, radiator, heater, sunny windowsill) as this can weaken adhesives and cause materials to become brittle or shrink.
Dry using natural methods (air dry) and try to keep them out of the sun for long periods of time. Boots dry faster when positioned upside-down. If desired, stuff a sheet or two of newspaper into each boot to absorb moisture. Change the paper each hour.
If you see any mold on your boots, brush in a mixture of 80% water and 20% vinegar.
Store boots in a place where temperatures are stable and normal. Do not store footwear in attics, garages, car trunks or any unventilated spaces.
Never put boots in washing machine.
Boa® Closure System Care:
We recommend regular cleaning of the eyelets and reel mechanism to prevent sand and silt from prematurely wearing on the cables. Use the tool provided to remove the reel and rinse thoroughly on a regular basis. This will ensure a long life for your Boa® system.
Boa® cables will need replacing over time just like a normal lacing system.
Boa® replacement cables are available on the Simms website, directly from Boa® or you can purchase spares at most fly shops. Always a good idea especially on destination trips.
CleanStream™ is a design philosophy that runs through our line of wading footwear. While not specific to a product feature, this designation does indicate that the product includes features and/or materials that are more resistant to "hitch-hiking" organisms – have less exposed stitching, fewer ridges & pockets and utilize non-absorbent materials – all making the boots easier to inspect, clean and dry faster. All of these elements assist anglers in doing their part to prevent the spread of invasive species. For more information, please visit our CleanStream™ page or these organizations: www.cleanangling.org, www.protectyourwaters.net or www.tu.org.
The New RIVERTREAD™ platform is designed for the demanding angler looking for the best wading footwear on the market. Molded dual-density EVA midsole creates extra cushioning for hiking comfort and enhances proprioception. A Molded and minimal TPU rentention plate allows lightweight cleat retention and enhances proprioception. A molded Vibram® Idrogrip® outsole with 4mm self-sharpening multi-directional lugs permits long lasting traction on trails, slip resistance in water and toe protection. Also available in a 12mm Felt outsole.
Vibram® soles are built from the bottom up and are designed to overcome very specific obstacles on a variety of terrains. - Good boot, bad cable! Review by Don
OverallGreat fitting boot! New sole design is awesome. Big problem though. The cable is not lasting very long. I put about 75 days on them and had to replace both cables.

- G4 Boa Boot - Too tight around ankle Review by JP
OverallCouldn't wait to give these boots a try from the first time I saw them. Unfortunately I had the same issue some other people I have spoke to have had. The ankle tightens way too tight while the area around your foot still stays loose. If this is not a defect in some of the boots then I believe this probably happens when people have a longer and narrower foot. I had to bump up to a size 12 due to length as the size 11 was just a tad too small. I wouldn't say my foot is really narrow but I do find a lot of extra room around the foot area in these boots. When tightening these boots the foot area only tightens a bit while the ankle area tightens to the point where it does cut off circulation. I'm not able to get these boots snug around my foot at all. Gave these boots a couple chances out on the river hoping that something would adjust once worn in a bit. No change. Since these are now used i'm stuck with them. I'm willing to try the Guide boot but am not happy about the fact I just spent so much $ already on the g4 boot. My advice..don't buy them online. Try them before hand and give a good walk around in the store to make sure you don't end of with this issue.
[Response from Simms Customer Care Team] Thanks JP. Sorry those boots didn't work out. We have passed this information along to the product team. Please contact us [email protected] or 888.585.3570. Our product team may have a suggestion for the issue.

- Good Overall Review by 1971nova4dr
OverallI really like the fit and comfort of these boots. They tighten evenly on my feet and don't come loose unlike traditional laces. The only complaint i have with these is both of the cables broke on me after a couple months. This happened 5 miles back on the first day of my fishing trip which was a drag. Getting the replacement cables has been taking a while, too. It's been two weeks and they still aren't here and I will be moving soon. Kind of worries they will not get here before I leave.

Passed this along to the repair center. Thanks for letting us know

- Not so happy Review by Joonas
OverallI have the same problem as Red, the BOA system tightens only around my ankle not around foot.
Second problem is the location of BOA system. Because its located now on the side I think it's more fragile when wade in rocky rivers .
My left boots system detached after 2 fishing trip and right boot system is about to brake. I have used these around 12 times....
I was hoping to get good boots for this price but not this time.
[Response from Simms Customer Care Team] Thanks Joonas. Please contact our repair center at 800-217-4667. We would like to find out more about the issues you experienced.

- Love the boots Review by KM
OverallPicked up a pair of these G4s and I have nothing, but good things to say. Awesome boots. The boa system is convenient and reliable making it easy to slip on and off. I have had these boots in freezing weather and in some muddy/sandy places and the boa system has worked flawlessly. I will never buy boots with laces again. At first I was a little weary if they would work in tough conditions, but they have worked great. The bottom of these boots grip all different types of terrain with little to no problem without the spikes. I only had one slip in that was on a creek with a slate bottom. After adding the spikes I never experienced a slip again. Great boots. Definitely worth the money! Another awesome product by Simms looking forward to their future products as well. I test gear for Gore-Tex and highly recommend these boots.

- Simply the best shoes ever for the Madison Review by Rick
OverallI bought these hoping they would work on the Madison River. They have exceeded any expectation i had for them. By adding the optional spikes I now feel like i am safe wading the Madison. The unique round rocks are no longer an issue.

- Not Happy Review by Red
OverallJust recently purchased this boots and have worn them 2 times. The BOA system tightens around the ankle before tightening around your foot. In order to get a tight fit around your foot your ankle will be so tight you'll cut off circulation. I believe it has something to do with the system being located on the side of the boot rather than on the top.
I would NOT recommend this boots.
[Response from Simms Customer Care Team]
Thanks Red. This is the first we've heard this problem. If you don't mind please contact us at [email protected] or 888.585.3570 so we can figure out the cause. That shouldn't be happening.
