Chief Product Officer (CPO)

Simms Fishing Products, Bozeman, MT, makes premium fishing apparel and footwear including GORE-TEX ® waterproof, breathable waders. The brand was founded by John Simms in 1980 to develop innovative products which help anglers push the limits of their fishing pursuits. Simms took a giant leap in 1993 when current owner K.C. Walsh, a passionate angler and entrepreneur, acquired the company. He relocated the company to Bozeman. Under Walsh’s leadership, Simms introduced the signature breathable waders in partnership with W.L. Gore & Associates (makers of GORE-TEX® fabric). This enhanced waders to new levels of comfort and performance. Simms’ GORE-TEX® waders are manufactured in their Bozeman headquarters.

Simms is the sole fishing wader manufacturer in the United States and one of two GORE-TEX-certified wader manufacturers in the world. It employs about 140 people with approximately half of those in the production plant. Simms is a recognized Montana economic ambassador and community contributor.

Role

The CPO brings extensive experience in merchandising leadership, assortment planning, customer insights & market trend assessments, financial analysis, and omni-channel go-to-market strategy to lead SIMMS’ merchandising and design team. The CPO is responsible to continuously push function, performance, design innovation, fabrics leadership, and appealing aesthetics to help Simms capitalize on our emerging opportunity in fishing-inspiring sportswear.

 

Duties

  • Provide strong leadership, coaching, and mentorship to consistently produce company-leading growth and profitability
  • Lead and inspire internal product line managers, and internal/external product designers to their full potential through creative direction, and constructive criticism with a strong eye for Simms
  • Manage the product design process with internal and freelance designers to build distinctive collections from product brief to field testing to commercialization. Reduce lead times to assure quality samples and bulk production
  • Oversee and manage a consistent design language across all Simms categories

Partnerships

Social Media Communications Specialist II

The Social Media Specialist, within the Brand Communications Team, is responsible for the execution of the brand content and communications strategies across Simms owned channels.

The Social Media Specialist will work closely with the PR, Content Manager and other stakeholders to develop an omni channel communications strategy focused on current and emerging social media channels. This role will work to elevate the Simms brand on social media. Raise awareness of the Simms brand through the acquisition of new consumers through social media activations. And they will work with other marketing team members to connect the social media programming to our DTC seasonal activation programming.

In-addition this role will assist with community management, engage with public facing consumer support, and the ambassador team.

Key Responsibilities and Priorities:

  • Develop a global social media strategy that defines how social media campaigns will be applied across various platforms and regions, with an emphasis on setting strategic goals, developing metrics, defining audiences and identifying key tactics.
  • Manage social editorial calendar to achieve assigned department goals and keep international partners informed.
  • Take on the responsibilities for all stages of a social media campaign, from strategy to implementation to reporting.
  • Develop a community strategy for maintaining a one-to-one relationship with fans despite challenges of growth.
  • Create and lead execution of a content marketing strategy that’s in line with current brand initiatives.

eCommerce Channel Manager

The Simms eCommerce channel is growing and we’re looking to fill the eCommerce Channel Manager position. This is a full-time position.

In this role, the Channel Manager will have P&L, merchandising, performance marketing, inventory planning, and analytics responsibility. The individual in this role is focused on creating a differentiated digital commerce experience, leveraging data to create highly converting shopping experiences. This is equal parts merchant with a great eye for product, growth marketer, and a data driven analyst; thinking strategically as well as responsible for day-to-day execution.

This individual will be responsible for driving revenue while managing cross-functional relationships internally and externally. The ability to influence and drive change across a retail manufacturing organization, strategic planning and presentation skills to senior management are essential to meet the growth expectations for the direct channel at Simms.

Outcomes of the role:

  • Owns revenue, margin, and profitability forecasts and results with accountability for hitting aggressive annual growth targets.

The Simms organization is growing and ready to fill the position of E-commerce Technology Manager with a specialty in Cloud E-commerce with Magento. This is a full-time, in-house position based in Bozeman, Montana.

In this role, you will be a leader on the IT team and will be responsible for the functionality, support, and optimization of Simms customer facing and backend technology platforms.  This role will work full time with the Simms e-commerce and marketing teams. 

The role will work closely with both technical and business staff to maintain a high performing optimized technology environment that drives process improvement.  

Outcomes of this role include:

  • Leads all aspects of the e-commerce technical environment and responsible for the technical function of the Simms web environments; has dotted line reporting accountability to the Chief Marketing Officer.
  • Leads significant enterprise projects and operational activities pertaining to the cloud/e-commerce/backend environment.

Planner I

The Simms Planning team is growing and we’re looking to fill the role of Planner I. This is a full-time, in-house position based in Bozeman, Montana.

The Planner I is responsible for the accurate creation and maintenance of the operational information and tools critical to the success of Simms’ Planning organization.  Through immersion in the foundational operational infrastructure of the company, the individual plays critical support roles in inventory planning, operational data maintenance, purchasing & supply chain, and business analytics.  Key responsibilities include facilitating inventory and supply chain planning reviews, capacity planning and purchase order communication with external vendors, and ad-hoc business issue resolution within the Planning & Purchasing team.

The individual in this role executes these responsibilities with strong attention to detail, sound operational and mathematical acumen, and effective communication with global vendors and internal stakeholders.  He/She also manages close relationships with the Operations and Product teams, maintains the curiosity required to identify and drive process improvements, and has a strong understanding of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Navision, and other key infrastructure.

Senior Email Marketing Specialist

The Senior Email Marketing Specialist has experience successfully innovating, leveraging customer data to drive revenue through marketing automation and engaging content. In collaboration with Channel Managers and Brand Comm team, you will be responsible for the SIMMS DTC and PRO email programs, including end to end development of lifecycle marketing campaigns/customer journeys and all data that supports it. This involves strategy development, coordination with creative, marketing, and other teams, tactical execution, and analytics of all lifecycle and email campaigns.

We’re looking for a scrappy, detail-oriented, creative lifecycle marketing specialist to join our growing team. From initial prospecting emails and nurture flows to webinars/live events, you’ll optimize every stage of the buyer’s journey to maximize revenue.

You’ll be a great match if you have stellar writing skills, a boatload of creativity, demonstrated knowledge of email marketing best practices, great attention to detail and if you aren’t afraid to flex your analytical muscles.

Reporting to Director of Digital Commerce, you’ll collaborate across the company – from product marketing and content to sales and operations – to drive revenue and inspire our community of anglers to Fish It Well.

 

Key Responsibilities and Priorities:

Planning and Coordination

  • Plan and execute email campaigns across the customer lifecycle that align with key seasonal stories/launches and drive revenue growth.
  • Develop automated flows that efficiently drive incremental revenue and customer loyalty.
  • Develop segmentation and personalization strategies across platforms that increase LTV (ESP & web tech like Product Recommendations and on-site pop-ups. Research on-site content personalization.)
  • Ensure all aspects of email content are planned, communicated, and implemented in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Beginning with creative brief, work with design team to ensure accuracy of creative and coding. Guide design team throughout the creative and deployment processes.

Continuous Improvement and Channel Growth

  • Leverage customer data for omnichannel engagement leveraging multiple platforms and strategies with an initial and primary focus on email while guiding SIMMS into our CRM future.
  • Test. Test. Test. Create and manage and ongoing testing plan to continually learn and improve performance.
  • Serve as subject matter expert for email marketing program, including current marketing initiatives, creative content strategies, and overall channel growth and best practices.

 

Leverage Customer Data

  • Leverage customer purchases and browsing behaviors to develop and grow behavior-based triggered automation campaigns to promote hyper targeted messaging.
  • Own the customer data flows and proactively partner with IT and SAS partners to resolve any issues.
  • Map out and continuously optimize the customer journey for key segments across relevant touchpoints to increase conversions and incentivize customers to return.
  • Develop customer segmentation and targeting strategies to drive engagement and customer value.  

 

Reporting that Supports Growth and Company Insight

  • Track, analyze and interpret key metrics like Open rate, click rate, and acquisition rates on all email campaigns to provide actionable insights and bring forward ideas for continuous improvements and share key learnings with marketing team.
  • Assist in developing and distributing monthly reports and insights on web traffic, trends and insights, and campaign performance.

Grow the File

  • Support the business by driving continuous improvement in email engagement, subscriber growth, and retention.
  • Acquire and retain subscribers through strategic initiatives in coordination with Brand Comm team.

Keep it Fresh and On-Brand

  • Partner with creative, UX and development teams for updates and enhancements to newsletter and transactional emails. Create wireframes and user flows.
  • Develop and maintain our brand voice by writing subject lines, snippets and editing body copy.

 

Set Us Up for Growth

  • Collaborate with Brand Comm team on product launches and become an expert on product offerings.
  • Research, strategize, and create an Ecommerce loyalty program to engage our current customer-base. (Long Range Plan)
  • Own the lifecycle communications for all D2C revenue channels across email, SMS, and website messaging to support CS.

Product Developer

The Product Developer (PD) will be a leader of the product creation process to ensure on-time development, engineering, testing, commercialization and accurate specification for all assigned products. The PD will execute in translating 2D design into 3D samples that meet or exceed brief, design intent, costing targets, and adhere to established standards for branding, design, craftsmanship, fit, lab/field testing, quality, and durability.

The Product Developer works autonomously and collaboratively with their immediate manager, and other stakeholders across the product team. The ideal candidate for this role can work across a broad range of product types, and is comfortable diving into new, unknown challenges. The PD is adept in seeking out resources to enhance product creation expertise, including internal coworkers as well as our manufacturers and other external partners. The PD must facilitate positive collaboration across the various functional team(s), and provides critical support in efforts to meet established workflow requirements, budget constraints, sampling standards, fit standards, and milestone dates.

The Product Developer will successfully manage, as assigned, assorted projects to enhance and support the Development process (e.g. process improvement, documentation standards, data integrity). The PD will support the team’s success by mentoring and coaching other product developers on the team.

Custom Branding Program Representative – Full Time

In this role, the CBP Representative will provide superior customer experiences with our retailers at every touch point, assisting dealers and customers grow their Simms branded logo business through on-time delivery focusing on high-quality branding/logo processes, strict adherence to quality, and timeliness with an eye for detail. This role will average 20 hrs a week, with potential increase of hours during peak periods and reduction in slow periods.

Dealer Services Representative

In this role, the Dealer Services Representative will provide superior customer experiences with our retailers at every touch point. The day to day is a combination of customer interaction via email and phone along with complex back-end order processing to achieve on-time delivery. Creating brand loyalty is achieved through expert-level product recommendations, effective preseason and ASAP order management, along with advice and guidance on all things Simms. This role is the ‘go to’ for finding solutions in all situations that may arise, with a win-win solution as the goal.

Outcomes of this role include:

  • Provide highest level of customer service in the industry with a positive solution-based answer to all product and service issues
  • Builds a trustworthy relationship with each dealer, helping them be successful through support and education of Simms programs and service including seasonal sales programs and ensuring Simms Dealer Policies are adhered to
  • Proactively manage open order dollars, focusing on accurate revisions and order release to achieve on-time ship dates
  • Educate dealers on the Simms B2B platform to place orders, find marketing collateral, and share additional tools critical for success

Warranty & Repair Associate

The Simms organization is growing and we’re looking to fill the Warranty & Repair Associate position. This is a full-time, in-house position, based in Bozeman, Montana. The Warranty and Repair Technician will work as part of the Warranty & Repair team to perform a variety of repairs on customer returned products. This is an entry-level position and will work under direct supervision.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Process product evaluations
  • Repairs waders utilizing approved methods and materials (ie re-glue, heat taping, etc.).
  • May enter repair information into database
  • Maintains high level of communication with supervisor regarding returns.
  • Assists in other functions as required.

The successful employee shall:

  • Be a team player that follows the above referenced procedures, but is also willing to take further direction from the Warranty & Repairs Manager. 
  • Be able to stand and sit for extended periods of time and move and lift materials. 
  • Have limited exposure to odorous substances and solvents (i.e. methyl-ethyl ketone). 
  • Demonstrate patience, detail orientation, and focus on quality. 
  • Prior manufacturing experience is helpful
  • Adhere to Safety procedures and guidelines

Production Manager

This leader will be responsible for the evolution of a best-in-class manufacturing facility. He/she will create an environment of continuous improvement, quality, and innovation, in collaboration with the product and operations teams, and will ultimately be accountable for top and bottom-line goals for wader manufacturing.

He/she will lead a highly engaged, purpose driven and collaborative manufacturing team, producing the highest quality waders in the world while meeting safety, delivery, and cost goals. The Production Manager ensures that Simms is an employer of choice in the Gallatin Valley, anticipating and navigating through changes in the overall labor market.

Key Responsibilities and Priorities:

Manages wader production to meet safety, quality, delivery, and cost goals. Works with the Director of Operations to implement production capacity, equipment, and staffing plans.

Maintains a great safety record by participating in safety programs. Coordinates with Product Development on starting production of new products on the factory floor.
