  1. Great Top, Year after Year

    100%

I have purchased three of these tops over the years, and they never fail in quality. (All 3 remain in good shape-- I just like the style/colors).

For my own testing purposes, I recently bought a Cloudveil equivalent top in the same price range. It completely pilled within 2 washings and looked like one of my grandpa's old tops that shouldn't be worn out of the house.

These tops never pill, and they retain their insulating qualities for years. It is not for the coldest of days, as any open skirt type top will let you feel really cold air. But it is perfection for the 10 out of 12 months of the year. Works well for road and mountain biking rides in the Fall in Colorado, as well.
KILLER TOP, and will continue to purchase.
  2. This Top Rocks!

    100%

Purchased the mid last spring from a fly shop in Arkansas. I initially got the large (didn't try it on). It fit a little loose in the neck area for my tastes. The next morning I returned it for a medium and couldn't be more happy. Reading the other reviews, the jury seems to be out regarding the sizing of this garment. I am 5'11" 165 lbs, with a slender, athletic build. I prefer my baselayers to have a snug fit and this fits the bill. The fabric is flexible, allowing free range of motion when casting, rowing, or netting a fish. In addition to comfort, it is warm, durable and looks just as good worn under waders or jeans at the bar spinning yarns about the fish you caught. I LOVE this garment. Home run, Simms...
  3. Excellent Quality

    80%

This is a must in the harsh weather. The only knock I have, is that as a 6'5" 245llbs guy with big shoulders, it's a little tight in the upper arms/biceps area. I got the XXL and it's seams a little small, which is the case with most of the Simms tops. My girlfriend just got me the GorTex guide jacket and it to, is a little small in that area. I had to go up to the XXXL in that, just to fit this fleece top in the arm pit area. Now the coat is too big around the middle section. It's way better then getting the XXL though. Should work out though.
  4. Greaty Fleece- Review by Todd Peters

    80%

I love this fleece! It is very comfortable and is extremely warm.

The fit is great. As a guy with an athletic build I dislike clothing that is cut larger. I am 5'11" 170 lbs and the large fits well ( not loose or too tight, movement and casting are fine with this fleece).

Works well as layer or by itself. So I would say that you'll get three seasons worth of where at least. Might work for chilly summer morning too.

I highly recommend this garment .
  5. Great warmth - Large around the waist.

    60%

Purchased one of these in Large a few months back and was impressed enough to buy another of course, though this time I purchased an XL. I assumed that purchesing an XL the shirt would be larger in all aspects but still keep "somewhat" of a slim fit that most of the Simms products normally have. Not so, in fact when I tried on my XL in comparison to my Large, I found that about the only thing that was larger was the mid-drift!.. Where I really wanted to see the increase in size was in length of torso and sleeves. Not so with the purchase of an XL.
Great warmth in this pullover, though needs to longer in the torso and sleeves in the XL size....
  6. Simms nailed it

    100%

For this Alaska fisherman, hunter, skier, with a blue-collar background and habits, I hesitate to pay $80-$90 bucks just for a damn shirt, unless it is something special. This shirt makes the grade. Warm, stretchy, a pocket, hard-wearing, no pilling, dries super quick. I expect to the beat the crap out of this shirt wearing it for many years.

Noting other critiques below, I think Simms might have made some adjustments to lengthen the sleeve and body length. I'm 6'1" 180 longish "basketball" build. All dimensions on a size large fit me perfectly.
  7. Helpful sizing an fit info

    100%

I ordered an XL an it fits perfect, slim in the mid section, great for Athletic build. Sizing info for buyers, I'm 5'10" 220lbs fits great, very happy with mid top. It's about time companies are getting up to speed on sizing for bigger guys not big guts. Good job Simms
  8. To Small

    60%

I ordered this in a large going by the size chart, I am 5'8" 190Lb. when it came and I put it on it fit me too tight . I should have gotten the XL for fit in the body. It is a great quality But till I loose some weight this will set in the closet.
  9. Excellent layering

    80%

I like this top very much. That said it fit like a wet suit so I ordered up one size.
  10. Don't pass this up

    100%

Purchased this top awhile back and I can't be more happy with with it. The quality is awesome and the fit is perfect. As a guy with an athletic build I dislike clothing that is excessively bulky. This top fits great is comfortable and is extremely warm. When paired with my Gore Tex jacket it becomes very warm and comfortable down to temps of 30deg for me. I can't say enough about the quality and comfort of this top. I live here in Alaska and the weather changes on a moments notice. I have found the top to work well by itself and very effective when used for what it was intended, layering.. In addition, if you should get it wet it dries very quickly. You won't be disappointed
  11. Good fit, warm and very comfortable

    100%

Simms was on the money with this garment. It's the perfect weight year round. I would recommend it.
  12. Top 5 Simms product

    100%

Just received my Guide Top and spent 2 days on the Missouri in Feb. This top is the best layering garment I have ever owned. Hands down. Nothing comes close. I had to shed my Simms jacket before noon. It's that warm. If you winter fish, you need this top. It's the real deal.
  13. Stretch Fleece, what a concept!

    100%

I got a green one right after Christmas. I didn't realize how good it looked until one day I was in the fly shop wearing mine and another guy walked in wearing his. It's a great looking sweater. It goes on and off so easily because it really stretches , which I didn't know fleece couple do. And no matter how many times I had to dip the sleeve in cold water to retrieve a fly, it did not feel cold and dried in minutes. Looks great and very functional.
  14. Perfect Layering Piece

    100%

I bought the Guide Mid Top right at the start of the fall Albie season on Cape Cod, just as the wind started to blow and summer turned to late fall. I wore it day after day in all conditions and I couldn't be more please.

Know that feeling when something fits just right? And you want to wear it all the time? This is it for me. I'm ordering two more this week. It's the right weight for a lot of different activities, doesn't have any annoying little edges or foolish features and is well crafted. It moves well when casting, like to watch football, repels small spills of beer, gives a little additional wind protection running into the office and doesn't look out of place with the ski gear.
  15. Nice shirt but to short of cut

    60%

I like the way the shirt fits and it has som warmth but it is cut too short in the body and sleeves . I wish Simms would make shirts in tall sizes because in today's world there is a ton of outdoors men who are taller than 6'2"
All of Simms shirts could be longer in the body and sleeves for me but this shirt is extra short feeling.

Thanks R. We have passed your suggestion along to product development. We appreciate the feedback
  16. Great garment but cut different than the old guide fleece top

    80%

Have to say that this guide mid top is a first class layering garment. It's heavier and warmer than the recently discontinued guide top. It has super thick fleece, a smooth exterior that won't bind and the material stretches in all directions. Only complaint I have is the sizing. In XXL the fit is tighter in the shoulders and body than the discontinued guide top so order one size up if you're going to layer over something heavier than a base layer. I'm 6'3, 240 lbs and wear an XXL and most of Simms products in XXL fit me OK. The previously model had plenty of room through the shoulders and torso. This top fits but is on the borderline of being too small when worn over the new wool mid top underwear. It also could be a little longer in length. Wish Simms would add a XXXL size on some layering pieces like this one and the cold weather shirt. The cold weather shirt just doesn't fit. Other than the sizing, I highly recommend this product to anyone looking for a warm mid layer. Buy one of each color as it is that good of a garment.
  17. Great Addition!

    100%

Although I live in South Florida, it does get chilli from time to time. This Mid Top has worked perfect for those early morning runs out on the open water. This top could not be any more comfortable. It is nice and soft with some stretch which allows for a geat fit. It stays snug so it does not get in the way of your fishing and allows you to add additional layers if need be. I usually add my Paclite Jacket for added warmth, as well as protection from the elements. I am 5'9 160lbs and the medium fits me perfect. Great addition Simms!
  18. Awesome!

    100%

Just got the mid top several days ago and, now that I've worn it almost everyday, I defnitely like it better that I thought I would. It exceeded my expectations as far as warmth. It doesn't get terribly cold here in GA, but we recently had several mornings in the high 20's/low 30's. One of those mornings on the water I wore this over my guide shirt and I was warm and toasty all morning. By 1 o'clock the temp was around 52 degrees and I had to take it off. I was surprised by how warm it kept me. The inner fleece is nice and soft, and the outer shell seems durable and didn't have any rips/tears after walking through woods and brush this week. Good stuff!
