A key attraction at the ICE OUT Guide Event is the Guide Olympics. The fun-filled and rollicking Guide Olympics – where top fishing guides compete against each other for the title of “Guide Olympic Champion” – takes place at the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse on the Montana State University Campus. Throughout the day (Friday, April 26), the Fieldhouse will be filled with competitors demonstrating their finely honed guide skills in four events: casting, knot tying, cooler pulling and trailer backing.
This year, the championship round will be open to the public and guest-hosted by Hank Patterson, a self-proclaimed fly-fishing genius, international YouTube Star, and all-around funny guy who honed his guiding experience mostly from repeatedly watching “A River Runs Through It”. The doors of the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse will open at 4 p.m. allowing the public to choose the best vantage point to see qualified guides put their on-water expertise to use in a fun, yet competitive, setting. At 5 p.m. the Guide Olympics begin with a salute to the Warriors & Quiet Waters Foundation, followed by the Parade of Champions. Then the fun begins. The overall Guide Olympics Champion and the Fly Casting Champion will walk away with $1,000.
Competitors can test their streamside cooking skills with a the fishing guide version of “Iron Chef” or more appropriately, "Cast Iron Chef".
Your casting and rowing skills maybe be world class, but can you whip up an award winning shore lunch? Camp Chef has teamed up with Yellowstone Grassfed Beef to bring a new competition to the ICE OUT event. It will be a timed event with mystery ingredients and a general stocked pantry.
A limited number of teams will be allowed to compete so sign up early to have your chance to show off your culinary skills. Winning team will receive gift certificates from Camp Chef and Yellowstone Grassfed Beef.
