Comfortable and functionalGreat spring, fall jacket. Super functional and durable to be your every day jacket or spare you leave in the truck. Seems water resistant and can handle light rain. I use it as an under layer in my uninsulated Challenger Rain Jacket and it's perfect.
okayI found after a few hours of exposure to water this failed to keep me dry. The cuffs and waistband (cuffs especially) act as sponges and soak up lots of water and distribute it throughout the fleece liner inside. I love this jacket its just not practical for rain days or situations where your hands will be in and out of water. I love this jacket on a cool morning and throwing it on for short boat rides. Ill probably buy another one as I wore through the one I purchased, I will just try to avoid wet situations.
Perfect for certain sizesSlim fit Works well with waders. Excellent for about 35-65 degree weather; throw on a hat/shell for the colder or wetter end. Drawback is there’s only one fly box pocket up high, and the warming pockets are on the small side. For me the slim fit is a plus as is the long for over torso for warmth or weather protection. A “typical” hoodie fit tends to bunch up for me so happy with this one.
Winter on the Gulf CoastI picked up this jacket last year to use during dreary & windy days in the marsh. I mostly fish from a kayak so a jacket that can stand against moisture is key. The outer shell did a great job of not only blocking wind, but because of it's hydrophobic properties, water tends to bead off of it. The inside shell is a soft, comfortable, and warm fleece. Nothing to complain about. I love that I can wear it in the marsh, as well as to a dinner afterword and it doesn't look terribly out of place. Great product!
Hoodie Designed by the Gods1st off I see a lot of size complaints... so I'm 6'2" ... 185 pounds... and a standard large fits me perfectly with the intention but not always the ability to add a base layer if needed....it's fantastic DWR finish is phenomenal ...I'm used to it from my Kuiu Kunting gear.... the stuff is bullet proof !! for $99 this jacket is the STEAL !! the only thing I wish would be different is a more sealable cuff ...get rid of the 1980s bomber jacket cuff
AverageWorked well to stop wind but not beyond what one would expect for the price point. As mentioned in a separate review my jacket ribbing pilled on day one
I love the quality of this Jacket!!I originally purchased this to knock off the chill when working around the farm and it worked so well that I bought an additional that I keep in my car!!!
Simms Quality is second to non, these jackets are a steal for this price!!Awesome Products!! Simms is second to none!!
Warm, but wrong fitIts truly warm and windproof. The sizing is a bit off. Bumped up to an XL for shoulder space, but the step up added a ton of length and additional fabric in the waist area.
Not bad at all!I'm usually just a flannel guy, never do wear hoodies. But this soft shell keeps me warm when I need to be and without the muggyness. Great for early mornings on the water in just about every season. Somewhat wind and water repellent. Can't complain.
HoodOverall I like it but the hood / neck area is way to narrow. Extremely uncomfortable when you try and zip it all the way closed. Out last night walking the dog with a stiff wind and could not zip it closed to protect my face.
Wish I coulda kept it!Looked to be a great jacket when I pulled it out of the box. The Large I ordered fit like a solid XL. Had to send it back. Try one on if you can.
Terrific ProductI love winter fishing in the mountains of North Carolina and Easr Tennesee. However, it can get really uncomfortably cold. This top has made those days more than bearable. I'm warm and snug with this jacket. I agree with one of the other reviewers, "if you don't have one, get one." Great price also.
Terrific!Great product at a great price! If you don't have one, you should!
ExcellentGreat Jacket, and way above my expectations for the price point.
I guide full time in NZ, and it's my go to jacket - functional and hard wearing in the outdoors, but still smart enough when picking up clients from the lodge.
Looks good, fits wrongI've put this jacket (size Medium, camo) through the ringer over the last 8 months, using it for fresh water fly fishing in VT, saltwater fishing off Nags Head, duck hunting, deer hunting, doing yard work on cool days here in MA, and fending off dinnertime debris from a toddler.
The jacket is only moderately warm - I have several other soft shells that provide more warmth. This one would be better if the hood were more useful, but it is a few inches too short. I'm 6' tall, 185 lbs with a 41" chest, and I find this jacket fits small (I took wear a size Medium in almost everything). It looks good at this size, the chest is right, but the arms and the hood are too short.
Note: I tried on the L version of this jacket, and I looked like an adult wearing a skateboarder's jacket; the style didn't fit a 38 year old fly fisherman - it was too big.
I know that Simms tried to make this jacket a bit more modern while allowing for range of motion for casting, but it could use some improvement. I would call it a glorified $100 sweatshirt, and if you view it that way, it is fine. But at this price point, the trim shouldn't have pilling on the material, the Simms lettering should have stayed on (mine came off on Day 2), and the sleeves and hood should fit better.
[Response from Simms Customer Care Team] - Thanks for the review Nate. You should contact our repair center at firstname.lastname@example.org so they can evaluate the pilling and logo issue. Neither of those issues should happen. In terms of sizing you may be right in between our medium and large. Normally we would recommend someone with your dimensions to purchase a large. I am 5' 10", 170 lbs and 41" chest and the medium fits me perfect.
Good but could be betterI'm quite happy with my hoody my only criticism would be to have better designed pockets when you sit down with the hoody unzipped things can fall out of the pockets rather easily I would recommend to have the pockets have the same quality ykk zipper which you use to zip it up other than that does as advertised
[Response from Simms Customer Care Team] - Thanks Spoonman. We'll pass your suggestion on to the product team.
PoorSimms Letters feel off first time I wore it. Sucks to buy high end clothing and that happen. Got a buff also that the steching came off first time I used it. First time using Simms products and I'm not impressed.
Odd sizingLove the product, but make sure you try it on first. I'm a medium on everything. This product is just a tad snug, can't wear a lot of layers under it. The worst thing is the hood, it needs another inch of height. All of it's weight sits on my the top of my head. Might need to size up.
All around great for 99This is a great jacket for Socal fishing. Keeps you warm on those fall and spring mornings. I also use it under my rain gear. It really keeps you warm when you zip it up all the way.
Good ProductI have gone through a lot of stuff trying to stay warm in SD's harsh fall and winter weather. I use this for both duck hunting and Ice fishing and love it. It's wind proof nature makes it a natural for the wind blown potholes that I hunt and fish.
Versatile and ruggedThe Rouge Fleece Hoddie is a versatile rugged outer layer and a must have for the avid angler. The coat is wind proof and water resistant. I took this jacket from the retailer directly onto the water and within an hour was caught in a downpour that lasted thirty minutes. The end result was me bone dry and warm. The Rouge is in it's element in the Pacific Northwest Environment and will keep you warm on cold wet days afield. It can be worn stand alone or used as a layering piece. The inner fleece layering reflects and holds heat even in temps down in the teens. The wind proof outer layer compliments the fleece insulation holding in your heat and water repelling outer layering keeps you dry through squalls. Ergonomic paneling in the hood allows you to wear the jacket hood up open face or zipped with the built in face shield and in either configuration your field of vision is never compromised. Both the hem and the wrists wrap and hold snugly to their respective anatomical locations without restricting range of motion. Offered in various earth tones the Rouge allows you to remain hidden from fish or prey while styling you in nature's colors. The camouflage option is my favorite as I can wear the jacket fishing, ducking, and hunting pheasant. Cold, windy, and wet or warm and sunny with sudden weather change the Rouge is a five star product and I highly recommend this jacket for it's versatility and ruggedness.
awesome hoody. Looks good, feels good, performs good, love it.Nothing bad to say. Warm, looks cool, & functional. Have not had opportunity to wear it in a substantial rain but otherwise it is exactly what I expected.
