I have two of these. One older and a newer model. They've both made many International trips with rod tubes in tow. I've had small holes burn through them from airline conveyor belts, but I've never had a gash. Simms repaired the holes for the cost of shipping. Not bad. They newer model's material is softer. I find it easier to roll and compress my gear down to a small roll. Prepacking everything into packing cubes certainly helps with making the final packed bag compressed. What I like most about the bag is I don't mind if it's thrown on top of a bus or truck in the rain on the way to my destination (it's going to happen whether the bag is waterproof or not).
I often find myself carrying the bag like a backpack through airports or towns, the only suggestion I'd have is to make one side of the D handles padded so they don't cut into the shoulder as you carry a 20 kilo bag.

Just home from a multi night canoeing / camping trip in Wyoming, very satisfied. Fits everything for a two person camping trip and keeps it dry as a bone - tent, mattress pads, camp chairs, sleeping bags and other random soft goods. I tend to loose track of important stuff while camping, the internal pocket is a nice touch - wallet, phone, permits, etc.
It's critical that the user take their time and properly fold the top closure and then cinch the straps super tight. Do so insures its waterproof.

I think the new material is just not as resistant as the older one. After 1 plane ride it got a gash about 3 inchels long vertically along the texture. And the other thing is that the edge of the top of the bag is not as firm so it makes rolling it down to the right size much harder.
It does look smart and I like the colour, but the lack of durability is a tough.
