When weather deals an open-hand slap to the system, fight back from head to toe. Simms' new Contender Jacket and Bib series is rated for extreme wet weather, featuring GORE-TEX® Performance Shell fabric tech that delivers 100-percent waterproof/windproof performance. Throw up the expansive storm hood to counteract a freak deluge from all angles and cast all day in comfort thanks to articulated jacket-sleeve engineering.
GORE-TEX® Performance Shell outerwear is waterproof, lightweight, durable and breathable. It’s designed to provide excellent, long-lasting performance in a wide range of conditions.
The AquaGuard® VISLON® zipper is a revolutionary new design from the global leader in containment closures. The AquaGuard® VISLON® zipper's new tooth design provides enhanced fluid repellency vs. coil or standard individual element closures, while increasing the number of design and color options for your application.
Cleaning your GORE-TEX® garments regularly will extend the life of the product. It will also keep them breathable as dirt and oil can clog the GORE-TEX® membrane over time.
It is critical to wash jackets. Natural oils can damage the GORE-TEX® tape and adhesives causing a peeling effect.
Machine wash warm. Do not use fabric softener or bleach.
Remember to zip all pockets and close all Velcro cuffs before washing to prevent any damage caused by the machine.
Tumble dry on warm setting making sure not to use a high heat setting. Drying on warm will actually reactivate the DWR coating.

Great all weather jacket that will keep you dry even in torrential rain and does well in a broad range of temperatures. As a Gore Fishing Tech, I have worn it in the winter months (in the 20s with a long sleeve t-shirt and a fleece pull over) to spring (in the 60s when it's raining). The hood and collar construction is the best I've seen - comfortable and stays up under heavy wind. The length is longer than average (better versatility in my opinion) but the zippers have a very tight seal and seems to keep contents dry despite being a little long for wading. Overall the fit is about one size big but still fits great and doesn't inhibit casting or movement. I would consider looking at the size down from what you would typically wear to see if it fits better. However, if you plan to fish in colder weather stay true to size so you can layer.
This is my favorite Simms Jacket for wearing off the water because it is the length of a regular rain coat. Also, ideal for fishing from a boat were you want more coverage.

Overall I think this is a great jacket. Keeps you dry, cuff closures work well and hood is great. Jacket does have more reflective material then shown in pictures. I like a camo jacket to be camouflaged.

On a recent Alaskan cruise, we were greeted with unseasonably cold, wet weather. I was prepared for the temperatures, but not equipped to battle the rain. On past fishing trips to Alaska I remember all the guides wearing Simms products. I decided I had to have one, and disappointed I could not find one at a large sporting goods, store in Ketchikan. I ordered one for me and my wife as soon as I returned to Texas. Great all-around coat for just about anything Mother Nature throws at you.

Good fit. I bought the Medium and am 5'10" and 175 lbs. Love the low profile chest pockets. Wish the cuff adjustment velcro straps were a bit lower profile or different design--they tend to hang up. Overall best rain jacket I've owned.

I love this jacket!! I bought this jacket for the cold, rainy days out on the boat chasing stripers. I love the fact that this jacket cuts the wind and it keeps you super dry, even while running in torrential downpours. I love how the hood cinches down, and the cuff straps are convenient. The fleece lining on the inside of the collar is very comfortable. The chest pockets are nice and big, and the zippers open and close with ease and they keep stuff dry. I've used this jacket all winter and I've got to say it's pretty awesome. It does fit a bit larger than my other jackets, but it works well with layering. Plenty of range of motion for casting fly rods and throwing cast nets. Great product!!!!!

Great jacket. Feels "heavy" in a good way...should be durable. Hood is comfortable and easily adjusted. Collar is lined with a light fleece-type material and is great. Cuffs are easily adjusted and comfortable. Nice length (little longer than most jackets). Size runs a little large. I'm 6'2" 220lbs and a large fit well except for sleeve length and an extra large is a bit big. Went with XL for sleeve length and to allow layering. Jacket looks great (even in the XL...it "lays" nice) and could easily be worn for activities other than fishing! Extremely waterproof...first time wearing it I was out in an open boat with such hard rain visibility was reduced to about 100 yards. Doing 20mph in the boat into a 10mph headwind I stayed dry and comfortable. Again, cuffs and hood were easily cinched down to keep the water out.
Better than the "Slick" jacket if you ask me... I felt the Slick's cuffs were hard to adjust and difficult to pull my hands through when removing the jacket.
ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG with the Contender jacket! Would buy another one in a heartbeat.

As with all gear, you get what you pay for. In the case of ths Contender, you get more. I have used this jacket during the rain and snow without fail. I like the longer length for keeping more of your core dry and blocked from the wind. The high collar is perfect paired with a wool beenie. It keeps the wind off you neck and out of your face. The streamlined pocket layout keep lines from finding areas to get hung. The reflective logo's and addition on the sleeves are a nice additiona. All in all another hit out of the park for Simms.

I have had the jacket in snow, rain, and nice winter sunny days. It has been perfect in all occasions. I am a tall guy so i really appreciate the bigger fit. It allows for layering. It is in need of a loop or clasp for a net clip. The rest of the jacket features and pockets are absolutely functional and meet all of the needs for floating a river and working the sticks or wade fishing for the day!
Keep up the great work!

Nothing bad to say at all. It's been my "go to" jacket for 10 months now. I use it on the river, hiking on the trail, walking the dog, and out and about town. The soft fleecy high collar lets you hide your face and fend off the elements.. The reflective logo's and fore arm details add that element of safety when I take the hounds out on those miserable rainy evening walks. The chest pockets are large and snag free when I swing the spey rod. The zipper is very smooth and no issues. The large wrist cuffs are easy to use, comfortable, and most importunity… they work! The long cut in the waist hem looks normal for non fishing activities…. but can be an issue for deep wading… especially with the hand warmer pockets being low down. Simple solution, don't wade so deep! The fish are in close anyways!..lol The patterns and colours are a little loud for my styling, but thankfully they had a more conservative all grey colour. The fit is larger…. but so am I!…lol I also wear the G4 jacket which I've had for 3 seasons prior (still going strong too!)…. but find myself reaching for the Contender when heading out to the river.
This jacket is a home run! Well done Simms!
