Description

The lure of high mountain streams is the solitude of the path less traveled. Our VaporTread® Boot answers the call of remote water with a lightweight, hiking-friendly build, so you can follow the trail further or hike to the next access point with comfort. The minimalist design walks like a hiking boot and wades like a fishing boot. Our VaporTread® Vibram® outsole sticks to wet, mossy rocks, and the partial neoprene lining insulates your foot in the water. A synthetic upper take the wear and tear of daily use in stride and the sole is reinforced for reliable cleat. retention.

Features

  • Waterproof synthetic leather, rip‐stop nylon & scratch rubber upper
  • Partial neoprene lining

Technologies

  • CleanStream™ is a design philosophy that runs through our line of wading footwear. While not specific to a product feature, this designation does indicate that the product includes features and/or materials that are more resistant to "hitch-hiking" organisms – have less exposed stitching, fewer ridges & pockets and utilize non-absorbent materials – all making the boots easier to inspect, clean and dry faster. All of these elements assist anglers in doing their part to prevent the spread of invasive species. For more information, please visit our CleanStream™ page or these organizations: www.cleanangling.org, www.protectyourwaters.net or www.tu.org.

  • The New VAPORTREAD™ is designed for the adventurous angler looking for an innovative piece of footwear that is both trail-ready and wading-ready perfect for accessing remote, prisitine backcountry fishing holes.  The molded 3D footbed with arch support and ball flex aligns the foot for all day comfort and optimizes biomechanics.  A molded TPU heel clip secures the heel and adds lateral stability for all day hiking and wading.  The molded dual-density EVA midsole creates additional cushioning for hiking comfort and enhanced proprioception.  Trying to reduce weight for the trail a molded, minimal TPU retentioin plate was hidden between the midsole and outsole to provide light weight cleat retention and to enhance proprioception.  For long lasting traction on trails, slip resistance in water and toe protection, a revolutionized molded VIBRAM® IDROGRIP® rubber outsole with $MM self-sharpening multi-directional lugs was created.

  • Vibram® invests heavily in research and development of products never overlooking even the most minute detail. Inspired by free climbing rubber, Vibram Idrogrip is ideal on wet surfaces and improves grip on slippery terrain. Vibram Megagrip offers the ideal combination of grip and durability for maximum surface adaptability.

Footwear Care:

For proper cleaning of your footwear to descrease the likelihood of spreading Aquatic Invasive Species, please reference our CleanStream™ page.

If using in saltwater always clean and rinse to prevent corrosion.

Use a brush to remove dust and dirt. Choose an old vegetable brush or toothbrush. For maximum thoroughness, remove laces prior to cleaning. Use specialized boot cleaner, saddle soap or maybe a mild dishwashing soap with luke-warm water.

Do not use bar soap or detergents.

Do not place wet boots close to a heat source (fireplace, campfire, wood stove, radiator, heater, sunny windowsill) as this can weaken adhesives and cause materials to become brittle or shrink.

Dry using natural methods (air dry) and try to keep them out of the sun for long periods of time. Boots dry faster when positioned upside-down. If desired, stuff a sheet or two of newspaper into each boot to absorb moisture. Change the paper each hour.

If you see any mold on your boots, brush in a mixture of 80% water and 20% vinegar.

Over time the use of leather conditioners may provide increased water repellency and can prevent cracking and drying of the leather.

Store footwear in a place where temperatures are stable and normal. Do not store footwear in attics, garages, car trunks or any unventilated spaces.

Never put footwear in washing machine.

Comfortable, not Durable

ORSteel, 10/31/2017

Have worn these boots for two seasons covering many miles and many rivers. Rubber soles started to split off of the boot in toes, and then along sides. Very comfortable boot, but not durable enough to last very long.

Great Boots

turkeythug, 10/25/2017

Great wet wading boots, they feel more like hiking boots than wading boots. I've used them from surf fishing to steelhead, and they've held up for 3 years (a true miracle). The hardbite cleats wore out and fell off before I noticed any real wear on the boots.

Light boots falling apart

Florian, 1/3/2017

The boot is very light and good for long distances in the bush of NZ or the Jungle of Bolivia. But in those places reliability is key.

And that is the weak spot of those boots: the stitching came apart after less than 30 times on the water fishing.

The sides came apart from the upper boot. Allowing sand to enter the boot- a very bad construction flaw.
Until Simms changes the design, those boots are not useful for any serious fly fisher. Unless you want to buy two pairs a season.

Great boot for those who hike more than they wade

Miguel, 11/16/2016

In California, you better be miles from the nearest access point in order to get into non-pressured fish. Regular wading boots seemed like tanks on my feet, and after a mile or so of hiking, it was as if I had put on ankle weights.

The Vapors feel like regular hiking boots with the less rigid upper construction, but perform on the water like a wading boot. I did attach studs to help with the grip, and so far they've performed like a champ after 2 years of hard hiking and equally hard wading.

While there are a few cosmetic issues that have appeared, I consider that 'wear and tear' especially how many miles I have on them. If you're looking for a boot that doesn't feel like your feet are encased in cement blocks in the water, definitely take a look at the Vapors.

Comfortable, ligthweight, great sole and but incredibly flimsy upper

MG, 9/19/2016

I have worn these boots about twenty outings. The sewn on rubber rands have completely come apart on both sides of both boots, starting at the point where the boot flexes and spreading from there. With every outing the boots have fallen apart more and more. I'm not sure if this is a design flaw, poor workmanship or inferior material but these boots have not held up as expected. I'm considering finding a cobbler to sew them back together as I can't afford to replace right now.

Otherwise, fit, was good, sole was excellent, especially with the addition of the studs. Weight was great. I do find water pools in them and they do not drain particularly well, getting quite squishy.

I would love to have a durable lightweight boot I can hike and fish in, that can take studs.

Stitching failure

NZ, 2/3/2016

The stitching came apart after a few days fishing. There are loads of hiking boots around without stitching problems. Why cant simms make boots with solid stitching?

[Simms Pro Desk]

Thank you for taking the time to write a review, NZ. Your Vaportreads should not be falling apart like that. Please give us a call at 1-800-217-4667 so we can work to resolve this dilemma.

Stiches worn out in a week

Takao, 9/2/2015

Purchased in August 2015 at Canada and several places of the stitches worn out in a week.
I was very happy with previous G4 boots which last years of use.

Will not hold up

Steel, 8/18/2015

These boots will not hold up over time. The upper is too flimsy and if you wear any kinds of studs on these boots they will cause inadvertent holes in the uppers.

[Response from Simms Customer Care Team]

Thank you for your review, Steel. If you have any questions in regards to placing your studs, please feel free to give us a call at 1-800-207-4667.

Best Boots ever for this Foot Surgery Survivor !

AKR28, 8/16/2015

Simms Team,

Multiple foot surgeries over the years make me very picky about my footwear both for fishing and regular life.

I already own multiple Simms boots and other products including the best waders made.

That said one of my favorite things to do is hike small mountain streams in NH which includes lots of rock hopping and trail hiking.

The Vapor boot is PERFECT ! Light, stable and if you put the start cleats in the right place the perfect mix of dry rock and slippery steam traction.

Thank you Simms for helping me continue my search for the perfect brook trout stream in comfort.
