The blue skies and sandy shores of the tropics beckon. Spending a full day under the sun requires stepping up your sun coverage. The Simms SunGaiter™ helps you spend more time on the water with less sun exposure. Made from lightweight, quick-drying stretch fabric, it features laser-cut breathing holes, so you don't feel like you are breathing through a balaclava. The SolarFlex® fabric offers UPF 50 protection and covers from the top of your nose down to your shirt collar with enough height in the back to fit over or under your favorite fishing hat.
At Simms, sun protection is a critical component of our sportswear offering. Through a combination of fabric construction, design and finish, we offer a wide range of clothing that features a minimum UPF of 30 (very good) up to UPF of 50 (excellent). UPF stands for Ultraviolet Protection Factor and indicates how much of the sun's UV radiation is absorbed. A fabric with a rating of 50 will allow only 1/50th of the sun's UV rays to pass through. This means the fabric will reduce your skin's UV radiation exposure significantly. All of our UPF finishes last the life of the garment, an industry standard of 30 washings.
Machine wash cold with like colors. Use mild detergent. Gentle cycle. Do not use fabric softeners. Do not use bleach. Tumble dry low. Do not iron.
I am confident that this offers full protection from the sun. The fabric is light and comfortable and I like your choices of styles. I wish the neck were longer, perhaps with the option to open the bottom of the seams so it could cover the top chest area left exposed in your crew neck shirts. Still looking for a Simms-only solution for total coverage, but really like this for covering the face and neck.

Item is cut very small. It rides up in the back and exposes the back of your neck. Tight cut and shape makes you constantly mess with it to make sure it's actually doing what it's supposed to.
[Response from Simms Customer Care Team] - Thanks BRJ. Any chance you could provide us with the size of your neck. That information would be valuable to the product team. Please contact us at 888-585-3570

This serves the purpose of protecting the neck and face from the sun. However I feel that if it had separate piece that could cover the nose or a stiffer piece that fitted over the nose with a large opening below the nose breathing would be easier. As it is presently built when placed over the nose it does restrict breathing, and causes me to remove the gaiter from my nose. However this is still a much better design than most all the other products on the market it does have small vent hole placed in the nose/ mouth area.

Ok let's start with the pros so we can get this started on positive note.
I like some of the new patterns they're innovative, however the old saltwater camo was and is still my favorite. OK well they made the overall length longer which is great because unless i was fishing with a collard shirt there would always be some skin exposure. So i do like that aspect. However the primary difference that set this buff apart from all others in my opinion were the ventilation holes. First of all they have been made smaller than previous models, and lower down making them great if you happen to be a mouth breather. They're made to low to breathe through your nose without fogging your sunglasses don't get me wrong it's still better than every thing else out there but while demensionally improvements have been made, fogginh is once again a problem that was what made simms sungaiter stand above the competition. I would love to find another way to cut holes in the appropriate location, but i am worried about my now 40 dollar buff being ruined.
[Response from Simms Customer Care Team] Thanks flyforfish. Great suggestions. We will pass those on to the product team.

Simms changed the cut of the new Sun Gaiter from the original design. The original gaiter was great for guys with thick necks but the new design is very restrictive. I wish you'd bring back the original gaiter or make two sizes.

this is my first time using a sungaiter and I gotta say I am really impressed. I work installing solar panels in the Central Valley in California so it gets pretty hot out here. The Sun gaiter is not too tight on my face and it keeps my face cool. I will definitely be investing in buying more specially for the upcoming summer

Perfect fit, not tight and very cool

Definitely the best neck and face sun protection on the market. This is the third one that I have tried and am finally pleased with it. Fits great and works just as well. Vents work well also to help keep cool on hot summer days. Also stays up well when running across the lake at high speeds. Happy with my purchase.

As a full time Captain, I'm in the sun and wind everyday. After making several trips to the skin doctors, I realized that I had to take action. I tried several face masks but until I got my Simms mask I had not been happy. I can now wear the mask in comfort and know that I have the protection I need!
