Born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa, Jako Lucas has been cultivating his guiding skills for as long as he can remember. At an early age, Lucas decided a desk job wasn’t for him and that becoming a fishing guide was the only career path that made sense. In 2007, he received his first guide assignment — a six month stint in the Seychelles. In a week’s time, a group of 10 clients sight-fished and landed 370 giant trevally. Lucas still guides the Seychelles but in recent years, he’s added destinations such as Norway, Mongolia, Mauritius and Russia to his growing list of angling pursuits. Logging 320 guide days during his 2012 season, Lucas could easily be classified amongst the hardest working guides on the planet.
Guiding in some of the world’s best and most exotic destinations affords Lucas ample opportunity to capture amazing photography and unbelievable video content. In short order, Lucas formed Cpt Jack Films, a media company that in only three short years has achieved prestigious awards and industry recognition from The Drake, the SFA SA Fly Fishing Film competition and the Fly Fishing Film Tour for his work seen in, Gangsters of the Flats, Gangsters of the Flats 2, Aqua Hulk and 320.
