Growing up in Oregon, Marty Sheppard began getting acquainted with rivers such as the Deschutes, Sandy, John Day and Grande Ronde at a young age. By 2001, Marty was making a name for himself as a guide on these same rivers putting his clients on steelhead, trout and smallmouth bass. Marty is the proud husband of two-time World Champion Spey Caster, Mia Sheppard. In addition to being a multi-tasking mother, Mia, like her husband, is also a guide. Mia’s guiding career began in 2003 as a smallmouth guide on the John Day but in 2007, she began including steelhead into her repertoire. Between guide trips and personal fishing, Marty and Mia spend upwards of 200 days on the water each year.  The husband wife duo has been featured in numerous magazines including The Drake, Northwest Fly Fishing Journal, Catch Magazine, The Salmon and Steelhead Journal-Sandy River, Salmon, Trout and Steelheader and Field & Stream to name a few. Beyond these publications, both Marty and Mia have appeared in books such as Sean Gallager’s, Wild Steelhead, Chris Santella’s 50 Places to Fly Fish Before You Die and Scott Sadil’s Fly Tales. The Sheppards also share a common passion for conservation and actively support organizations such as, the Native Fish Society, Water Watch of Oregon, the Deschutes River Alliance, The Fly Fishing Collaborative and the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership.
