  1. These are the best traction cleats available

I have used these since they first came out about 10 years ago. My original pair of synthetic G4 boots from 2009 are still going strong with the original star cleats in them. I used an epoxy glue instead of the aquaseal. Both are good but expoxy when used on the screw thread and on the bottom fllat surface that contacts the boot seems to hold forever. I have other Simms boots with the older original vibram sole with these cleats and yet to loose one or wear out. I like the older vibram sole boots since you can put the cleats wherever you want. I put 15 on each boot. I fish for Steelhead in the northwest about 50 to 60 times a year where I have to walk in about a mile where the banks are coated with clay on the rocks. These cleats bite through the clay and grab onto the rocks. I feel very confident in any situation with these star cleats. I have seen many people slip and fall over the years without this type of boot traction.
  2. Must be LUCKY

Put these on a pair of G4's 3 years ago. Have fished 100's of hours all over the U.S. Never lost a cleat, like many reviews claim. Have had to replace quite a few because all that was left was a small cleat ring and screw. Simms could reduce their profit margin on these, at $2.50-$3 each it gets pricey replacing cleats .
  3. Won’t stay in boots

I put these on a new pair of guide boots and after a week of use almost all came out. The store replaced my boots and I used them for another week and several came out. Could be a sole issue but didn’t have this problem on an older set of guide boots with the aluminum cleats and smaller studs.
  4. Cleats fall out

I love these cleats (the boots are useless to me without them) but they fall out no matter what you do. I contacted customer service and they told me to use Aquaseal do I took them all out and did that.....they still fall out. I also can't get them into the same place on both boots as the streamtread pattern is different on each boot. One has the vital outer edges cut off so the cleats will hang off the edge of the boot, so I have to put them more inside on that boot and I can feel the difference when wading. If you are going to manufacture in China, you really need to put some stringent quality controls in place. If Simms could fix these two problems I'd be very happy.
  5. Outstanding

I'm retiring a pair of G4's that I beat the daylights out of and just bought a pair of G3's to replace them. The G4's had cleats on them and they still looked good so I removed them for use on the new boots. I've ordered more because I want to add some. I had never checked the tightness of the old ones and some were a little lose but the holes were not stripped and none were lost. Be carful not to over tighten them. The rubber will hold because it's sticky. Just check them now and then.
  6. They've saved my butt!

I have used the same set on my Simms Guide boots. I bought them, when the current model first came out. They rock in small creeks, greasy rocks and everywhere else! Still on the first cleats, never had to replace one! I fish 4-6 days a week in the summer and fall.
I often fish until sunset, and they have saved my butt a few times...
They give me confidence in water all over the Rockies!
    Thank you Simms!
  7. great product

Had these on my last pair of boots. I had the boots for three years. Lost a couple over time due to wear and tear. The traction on these was great on slick river rocks.cant wait to put them on my new boots.
  8. Never buy a simms product ever again

First time crossing the river I was missing 2 cleats!

    Replacements wont stay on either.

After purchasing 3 sets of waders and boots I would never purchase anything again from Simms since they won't refund or replace the boots.

Thank you for your honest review, Moats. We always recommend that you use a small dab of a urethane adhesive, such as Aquaseal, on the threads of those cleats to ensure a lasting fit. Please feel free to give us a call at 1-800-217-4667 with any further concerns you may have.
  9. A good product that provides traction when used with stream tread soles

I have used these cleats for over 5 years and they work. Occasionally I loose one. So I carry extra just in case.
  10. Great performance

3 years of Steelheading and guiding Big BrookTrout on rocky Canadian rivers as well as Lake Superior tributaries with great hookup on ice, rocks, wood and snow/mud. Still in use with 100s of hours and will likely get me thru a couple more years before replacement. My boots will wear out first.
  11. Cleats fall off

The screws wear and the cleats fall off well before the cleats are worn out.
I have complained about this to Simms on a couple of occasions and after their initial response requesting pictures they have ignored me completely.
I notice that there is no response to similar comment made here:- WHERE DID THEY GO? REVIEW BY CRAIGSPEY

[Response from Simms Customer Care Team] - We apologize you slipped through the cracks. We unfortunately can't find you in our system so we are unable to contact you. If you wouldn't mind, please contact Customer Care at 888-858-3570 or customer-care@simmsfishing.com .
  12. Going Strong!

After 3 seasons of heavy use in Steamboat CO., these cleats are going strong! I haven't replace one and they are still working great!
  13. Classic Hot Dog vs Buns Problem

So you sell these in packs of 10... but your install pattern diagram shows 8 being used per boot. So you want us to buy 2 packs and have 4 extras?

[Response from Simms Customer Care Team] - Thanks Tom. I always carry a few extra just in case one gets ripped out. I've been told that was the intention of the 10 puck.
  14. Mislead

I bought new Guide boots and start cleats at the same time. Wouldn't you think that Simms would include in the cleat package enough cleats to install the pattern Simms recommends? I did too. I was wrong. I feel Simms is gaming me.
  15. Where did they go?

They work great till the screw or the cleat wears out at the hole/screw. Then you look at the sole & find only the screw in the boot! Seams one of the two metals is too soft for the other & allows the star to slip off the screw.
  16. Can the developmental team count?

I bought these at the local fly shop. I went on line to look at the mounting patterns. With or without hardbites, you recommended patterns show 8 per boot, yet only 10 in a pack. I returned them. I gave them a rating of 1 because there was not enough product to use them.
  17. Excellent Traction

The Hardbite cleat is the perfect accessory for your boots, especially on those rivers with a very slick surface. the Hardbite is the best thing next to felt soles but with a much more environmentally friendly aspect to them that felt soles lack.
  18. Excellent Cleats

These are still working excellent after 3 seasons on the Georgia rocks. Excellent traction, tremendous bite even on wet logs and such. One package of 10 is enough to do a pair of boots, even my size 13's. You don't need them on the entire surface just a few spaced out in strategic locations. The life is incredible, again 3 seasons so far, and plenty of sharp edges left.

The only downside is they will scratch pretty much ANY surface that they touch, so be careful with areas like finished floors (sorry McDonalds!) and painted door sills in your vehicle.
  19. Too Expensive!

What is up with this! Only 10 Cleats in the puck and each puck is $30.00!! 10 cleats is not enough to cover two boots and and can'y afford $60.00 each time to replace. What the Puck!!

Well put Stubby! We have passed this on to our product development team. We appreciate the feedback!
