Here are some general guidelines for selecting what's best for your wading needs:
- Cleats offer a larger surface area for overall slip resistance and are suitable for Vibram or rubber outsoles. Simms offers Alumabite (softer, molds better) and Hardbite (carbide construction, more durable with textured overlays for penetration) cleats.
- Studs are recommended for slippery moss, algae, or slime as they penetrate the material to grip the substrate beneath. They are also the only option for felt outsoles. Simms provides studs specific to rubber/Vibram and felt outsoles.
