Here are some general guidelines for selecting what's best for your wading needs:

Cleats offer a larger surface area for overall slip resistance and are suitable for Vibram or rubber outsoles. Simms offers Alumabite (softer, molds better) and Hardbite (carbide construction, more durable with textured overlays for penetration) cleats.
Studs are recommended for slippery moss, algae, or slime as they penetrate the material to grip the substrate beneath. They are also the only option for felt outsoles. Simms provides studs specific to rubber/Vibram and felt outsoles.

BOA wire came loose on the first day.

"I bought this pair of boots for a fishing trip in Finland, as I want to make sure I have a pair of boots that will last the trip. At the end of the first day wearing them, while taking the left booth off, the wire came completely off the BOA reel, leaving me with no wading boots for the trip. Luckily, I was able to thread the wire through, tied a figure-8 knot at the end of the wire and made it work for the trip. The tech support at SIMMS was helpful offering solutions. Nevertheless, this is not the kind of quality one should woiuld expect for the most expensive pair of wading boots on the market."

Ok but not great

"They are MUCH roomier than the G3 guide boots I bought 2 years ago, and every other pair of size 10 Simms boots I’ve bought over the last 20 years. So loose that I can’t tighten the BOA across the top of the foot without putting too much pressure on the ankle. The old Guide Boa boot tightened down much more evenly top to bottom. The G3 guide boots i bought two years ago have the gravel guard hook in the right place, finally. Yet this new version has it back in the old spot high on the tongue of the boot, totally unusable with Simms waders. They seem to well built overall, but I can’t wear them except for winter time with a thick sock. Downsizing would not leave enough room lengthwise."

Improved design compared to the previous BOA model

"I had two pair of the previous model. I did OK and liked them because they were light. But the old ones had flaws with the riveted anchor for the BOA cable. These have a better BOA system which also is a lot faster to tie down the cable. The location of the BOA knob is good. The anchoring of the cable around the boot has improved a LOT. I took these to Chile for two weeks and wasn't disappointed. I would warn people about tying those boots, don't over do it because they get super snug very quickly. Which gives a lot of ankle support but can cut circulation too. Took me a few minutes to find the right tension. At first these boots feel stiff and they're challenging to get into. After 5 solid days of fishing they got a lot easier to put on. Now here is my rant, they take AGES to dry out. And when you just go on the water everyday this makes it kind of "ok" to deal with BUT when you're travelling and the boots will be "bagged" for more than 10 hours you're guaranteed to have mildew developing and that's why I threw one star out. SIMMS boots have always taken longer to dry out than any other brands I've used. Unfortunately for me even after a few baths in mold removal detergent, baking soda bath soak and all. I haven't managed to get rid of the mildew that developed in the fabric of the boot."

M4 Boa isn't as good as old Boa's

"my cable pulled out of the Boa after a few months. i liked the boots in general but the lace needed to be extended all the way to get my foot in and out of the boots and i think that was hard on the little clip that holds the cable in place in the new M4 Boa system. i have owned Boa boots in the past and loved them. it was very easy to repair the old System but this one is a bit of a mess in comparison. In the end Simms took good care of me and im just waiting for a pair of guide boots with laces to come back in stock. So the 2 stars is not a Simms thing or a boot build thing its just the new Boa that is hard to repair and not as tough as the old system."

Weird don’t size up

"Huge! I got my normal size 12…much larger than other models. Now I’m robocop ultra. My foot is a 10. 5, ordered a 12…. got a boot that is as roomy as a 2015 sz 14. Not sure if I’m supposed to buy my shoe size or boost it up like normal"
