Simms Access Wading Boot: Traction Redefined

If you've spent enough time wading rivers, you already know, the wrong step can do more than soak your phone, it can bruise your ego and your body. Footing changes everything. It changes how confidently you move through a run. Whether you'll cross to the far seam. Whether you'll take three more steps downstream for a better angle.

Good traction doesn't just keep you upright. It opens up water and therefore, opportunity.

And that’s what drove the development of the new Simms Access Boot.

The challenge with rubber wading boots has always been one of compromise. The pro of softer rubber compounds is that they grip incredibly well on slick, algae-covered rocks. The con, they wear out much faster. Harder compounds last much longer but inevitably give up slip-resistance.

For the Access Boot, we set out to deliver the best of both worlds.

The Access Boot builds on the proven foundation of the Flyweight Access Boot, taking one of its most celebrated features and refining it even further. Anglers consistently praised the exceptional traction delivered by its Vibram® IdroGrip Flex outsole, particularly on slick, algae-covered rocks where confident footing matters most.

The opportunity was to preserve that felt-like grip while extending durability for anglers who spend long days covering water.

The solution is a Simms-exclusive dual-compound Vibram outsole.

Around the perimeter, durable   Vibram Idrogrip stands up to abrasive trails, sharp rock, and season after season of use. At the center, Vibram Idrogrip Flex provides the softer, tackier contact zone that grips slick river bottoms with the confidence anglers really want and need.

Together, the two compounds deliver what rubber wading boots have long struggled to achieve: exceptional traction without asking anglers to sacrifice long-term durability.
You get durability where you need it grip where it matters most.

You stop feeling like you're making a compromise every time you lace up.

Of course, traction is only part of the equation.

The Access Boot was designed for anglers who cover water. A lightweight TPU woven upper sheds water instead of holding onto it, so the boot doesn't get progressively heavier throughout the day. A high-cushion, self-draining EVA midsole keeps every step comfortable, whether you're hiking to a remote stretch or spending eight hours standing in current. Integrated drain ports move water out quickly, while TPU overlays provide added abrasion resistance against wear and tear without piling on unnecessary weight. A water-friendly liner rounds out a design purpose-built for life in and around the river.

The result is a boot that's remarkably light in hand but far more capable than its weight suggests.

It's equally at home paired with your favorite Simms waders in April as it is matched with a Simms Guard Sock during wet-wade season. Whether hiking to the next bend or standing firm in the water, it never feels like you’re wearing more boot than you need. And that's what makes this boot different. It’s not built around a single feature. It’s built around removing compromises.

Grip without giving up durability. Lightweight without sacrificing stability. Trail comfort without losing wading performance.
